  • The legend continues… MERCEDES MOORE BAND returns to Golden Island Dim Sum & Asian Cuisine for the 255th installment of Dim Sum & Jazz - one of San Diego's longest-running weekly live music dining experiences! CHECK THIS VIDEO OUT: Seating begins at 6 p.m. Music is from 6:30PM to 8:30 p.m. Call (858) 578-8800 for reservations Mercedes Moore will be joined by; Steve Wilcox - Guitar Steve Pandis - Bass Stephen Hodges - Drums About Mercedes Moore ”From the moment Mercedes Moore takes the stage you can’t look away. She welcomes you to the show, thanks you for coming, and the band rips into its opening chords. As dancers rush to the floor, the smile on Mercedes’ face grows more radiant; you’re in her world and nothing else matters. You might think she was destined to do this, but you’d be wrong. Moore grew up doubting her skills, “I didn’t think that I could sing.” She says. “I didn’t think it was possible.” That was then, this is now. Today, fronting her own band, Mercedes works hard to be more than a voice. She wants fans to feel the music, the way she feels the music. Watching faces in the crowd on this night, as Mercedes swings through an extensive playlist of ballads, blues, and soul shakers, it’s obvious she has them right where she wants them. As a nine-time San Diego Music Award nominee, Moore performs regularly with some of Southern California’s premier musicians. The list is endless–Taryn Donath, John Simons, Mark Campbell, Marc Ramos, Tracy Wiebeck, Kurt Kalker, Matt Taylor, Steve Wilcox, Scot Smart, Missy Andersen, Sharifah Muhammad, and Laura Chavez–to name but a few. When asked, Moore is straightforward about the multitude of players. “It just makes you a better singer.” She smiles. “And different people have different strengths. Plus, I want to learn, so I can be better.” It appears to be working. Mercedes Moore is currently juggling four major projects and her music can range from blues, gospel, and R&B and swing. This does not take into consideration the assortment of duo and trio sets, the occasional jazz venture, and an array of impromptu performances with local and visiting artists. “ …. read the rest at https://sandiegotroubadour.com/12256/ Mercedes Moore Socials https://www.mercedesmooreband.com/ https://www.facebook.com/mercedesmooreband https://www.instagram.com/mercedesmooreband/ About Golden Island Golden Island Dim Sum & Asian Cuisine is a 365 seat restaurant and music venue that serves fresh, hand-made, authentic Dim Sum all day every day, with a great selection of authentic asian cuisine to choose from. • "Bouquet" is a curated exhibition organized by Page Art Projects and presented as a project of Campana Studios. On view at the ICA North Pavilion in Encinitas, the exhibition brings together five regional artists working across painting and sculpture whose practices engage botanical imagery through observation, history, and imagination. Rather than treating flowers as simple decoration, the works in "Bouquet" explore the many ways we assign meaning to the natural world — through study, symbolism, memory, and material form. From gardens carefully documented over time to sculptural works inspired by the historical language of flowers, each artist offers a distinct perspective on how beauty, knowledge, and cultural history intersect. Featured artists include: Laura Ball, Jean Lowe, Amy Pachowicz, Gail Roberts and Rebecca Webb. This exhibition is made possible through support from the City of Encinitas and community funding partners. Exhibition hours 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., Thursday - Saturday or by appointment

  • “Trial by Jury,” Gilbert & Sullivan’s comic operetta, a gem rarely performed by major opera companies, returns to San Diego County for the first time since 2009 on April 25 & 26 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Escondido, courtesy of Genesis Opera Theatre. The 30-minute operetta in English is a fast-paced contemporary courtroom circus where love, law and public opinion collide in the most delightfully ridiculous ways. Imagine sharp suits, social-media-level drama, your favorite reality TV show, and a legal system that’s just as theatrical as the people in it. Gilbert & Sullivan’s signature wit, speed and musical charm are clever, chaotic and irresistibly fun. Genesis Opera Theatre production features an all-star cast of talent drawn from Southern California’s San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange and Riverside counties, is directed by Patrick Anderson with musical director Abraham Fabella. “This fun production will be a new experience for most who attend. And those who know Gilbert & Sullivan’s repertoire will be thrilled with the accompanying concert of G&S favorites. I’m thrilled to be able to share this program with new audiences and seasoned operagoers alike,” says Genesis Opera Theatre founder Cynthia Leigh. Proceeds from the performances Saturday April 25 at 7 p.m. and Sunday April 26 at 3 p.m. benefit Genesis Opera Theatre and Trinity Episcopal Church. Genesis Opera Theatre’s mission is to make opera accessible to people of all ages for a reasonable price, and with the hope of inspiring young people to explore the art form further as participants or patrons. Donations are welcome at GenesisOperaTheatre.com.
  • The San Diego Civil War Round Table is hosting a “Show and Tell” program where buffs are invited, for example, to present a book review of their favorite campaign narrative or a travelogue about an especially fulfilling battlefield visit. We also certainly invite descendants to talk about their Civil War ancestors. Amateur historians may even wish to highlight some interesting fact uncovered in research. And if you have a non-lethal antique such as a uniform button, belt buckle, or kepi, we would very much like to see and hear about it.
