We’ll be exploring all things underwater with a fun selection of books, beginning with Jan Brett’s modern picture book classic The Mermaid. Storytime attendees will receive a special aquatic pin, and dress up is welcome! This Storytime includes song and play to keep readers engaged. Storytime is open to kids of all ages. Registration is encouraged, but not required.
  • Fiddler Brittany Haas and her cellist sister Natalie Haas together join family forces to present a new acoustic, Celtic, chambergrass sound that defies categorization! The virtuoso sisters began their musical lives together, filling their childhood home with Bach suites and old-time tunes alike. It was on their own, however, following divergent paths through disparate musical traditions, countries, and cultures, that they both arrived as performers and composers at the highest levels of contemporary string music. You’re invited to join the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library and the La Jolla Historical Society for a special Growing Together event as part of the Athenaeum’s Free Teen Art series on Sunday, June 5, from 4–6 p.m. Created especially for middle and high school students, this free after-school program invites you to explore your creativity through hands-on art activities and friendly fun with La Jolla’s vibrant cultural landscape. You’ll have the opportunity to participate in artist-guided drawing and watercolor painting with illustrator Lori Mitchell, as well as drop-in creative activities hosted by Coastal Defenders, including recycled oyster shell stringing and oyster-inspired art. Whether you stay for the full program or stop by for a single activity, you’re invited to create, connect, and be inspired. This event is part of Growing Together, a free family- and youth-focused community series presented by the La Jolla Historical Society that brings together La Jolla’s major cultural institutions through creative, accessible programming for all ages.
