This multi-day event will feature free, public lectures by three of the world’s most distinguished thinkers and researchers in ethics, artificial intelligence, and life sciences. The Kyoto Prize, Japan’s highest private international award, is bestowed by the nonprofit Inamori Foundation to honor individuals whose scientific, cultural, and philosophical contributions advance the betterment of humankind. Established in 1984 by the late Dr. Kazuo Inamori, the prize reflects his belief that humanity’s future depends on a balance between scientific progress and spiritual depth. The 2025 Kyoto Prize laureates are Shun-ichi Amari for Advanced Technology, Azim Surani for Basic Sciences, and Carol Gilligan for Arts and Philosophy. The San Diego Kyoto Prize Symposium celebrates the lives and work of these laureates through public presentations and scholarly engagement, offering an international audience the opportunity to reflect on shared global values and the pursuit of peace and harmony across nations.
