Cellist Lars Hoefs and pianist Aline Alves come back to Southern California from Brazil, presenting their Villa-Lobos Festival. They will play music by a range of Latin American composers in this three concert series. The second concert of this year's festival, “Brazilian Poetry, Eyes of the Beloved, and Bachianas Mexicanas," will feature a variety of musicians and instruments including: Daniel Parente, soprano, Daniel Kamon on saxophone, Ching-Ming Cheng on piano, Lars Hoefs on cello, Aline Alves performing poetry recitation, and Venus Rey Jr., a visiting composer and speaker. This concert is free and no reservations are required. Seating is first-come, first-served, general admission. Doors open at 12:45 p.m. This concert is presented in partnership with Coronado Arts.

Join us for a three-day Lantern-Making Workshop at The Woo, presented in collaboration with All For Logan and inspired by the cultural traditions of Fiesta de la Guadalupana. This hands-on workshop invites participants of all ages to explore the history, symbolism, and storytelling that shape this beloved celebration. Across three guided sessions, attendees will learn the foundations of lantern construction, reflect on personal and collective narratives, and design illuminated lanterns using tissue paper, natural elements, photographs, text, and more. The workshop blends cultural education with creative expression, culminating in lanterns prepared for a community procession. Workshop Schedule: • Wednesday, December 10 | 5–8 p.m. Introduction to lantern-making, imagery, and the history behind the Feast Day. • Thursday, December 11 | 5–7 p.m. Building lantern panels, assembling tealight holders, and beginning lantern structure. • Friday, December 12 | 5–7 p.m. Final assembly, decorations, and preparation for community display. All materials are included. Families are welcome. This workshop is a warm invitation to create, learn, and honor tradition through art — strengthening community ties and preserving cultural memory. Join us for an evening with renowned artist Nick Cave, whose multidisciplinary practice spans sculpture, installation, performance, and video. Best known for his celebrated Soundsuits, elaborate full-body sculptures that merge art, fashion, and social commentary, Cave creates work that speaks to issues of identity, race, and healing. His work "Rescue," from the Museum’s permanent collection, is currently on view in the Art of the Americas galleries, offering audiences a chance to experience his practice firsthand. The program will begin with a talk by the artist reflecting on his body of work, followed by a conversation-style interview and an audience Q&A. After-School Sewing Class // Ages 8-12 Students in this course will develop essential sewing skills, utilizing both hand-sewing techniques and the sewing machine. Over the course of six weeks, they’ll learn safety practices, stitching basics, machine navigation, and troubleshooting, while growing more confident in their technical abilities. As they explore idea development and practice foundational skills, students will create both functional and decorative pieces. The class wraps up with fun and functional final projects that showcase their creativity and growth.
