  • The Elizabeth Hospice invites individuals interested in helping adults and children facing the challenges associated with a life-limiting illness and those grieving the death of a loved one to a free volunteer orientation session via Zoom videoconferencing. Hospice volunteers are an important part of the care team at The Elizabeth Hospice and have an opportunity to make a real difference in someone’s life. Attendees will learn about a wide variety of virtual and in-person opportunities throughout San Diego County and Southwest Riverside County, including: serving as a patient companion, providing caregiver respite, performing aromatherapy, sewing Cuddle Bears, officiating at veteran pinning ceremonies, and much more. Information will be provided on both the application and training process. An email address and a device with a camera interface are needed to participate in the training session or attendees can join by phone. Prospective volunteers can choose from the following dates: • December 14, 2021 from 10:00am to 11:00am • January 6, 2022 from 4:00pm to 5:00pm • January 17, 2022 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm • February 4, 2022 from 10:00am to 11:00am • February 15, 2022 from 4:00pm to 5:00pm To ensure a place at the volunteer orientation session, please contact the Volunteer Department at 800-797-2050 or send an email to volunteer@ehospice.org .

  • The Intermediate/Advanced Summer Workshop is designed for serious dance students and aspiring professionals. It provides an opportunity to develop technical skills and broaden students’ dance horizons in a friendly, yet professional atmosphere. Founding Director Maxine Mahon developed this curriculum based on Russian and Cecchetti techniques and has honed it further over many years of experience. This workshop is appropriate for students ages 9 and older. Pointe work will be offered however, pointe experience is not required to participate. The daily class schedule is arranged to simulate a professional dancer’s day. Intermediate/Advanced students will participate in a variety of classes, including ballet technique, variations, character, jazz, and contemporary. 2023 Dates: Session I: July 31st-August 4, 2023 Session II: August 7-11, 2023 Each week runs Monday – Friday, 9am – 2pm Ticket Details: $450 - General Public $375 - CBS Students $300 - Military Enrollment is on a first-come, first-placed basis. A $200 non-refundable deposit is due at the time of registration and will be deducted from the total tuition due. The tuition balance is due no later than July 18th, 2023.Non-CBS students living in San Diego who wish to attend may call the school to schedule a placement class. Auditions are not required.   • On Saturday, June 10th, from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., the City of San Diego is inviting the public to provide input about what features they would like to see included in an ideal Ocean Beach Pier. The City is encouraging residents from throughout the region to attend and to bring their kids. Free ice cream, donated by Lighthouse Ice Cream, will be available, while supplies last. Fishing poles will be given to the first 20 kids and there will be 10 adult poles to be raffled off! Before the interactive portion of the workshop, City staff and consultants will provide a summary of findings to date, and present draft guiding principles for the project. The engineering and design team will also present information about design opportunities and constraints related to the construction of a potential replacement pier in the location of the existing Ocean Beach Pier, as well as the next steps in the design process. This is the 2nd in-person Community Workshop for the Ocean Beach Pier Renewal Project. The workshop on June 10 will be held at the Liberty Station Conference Center, 2600 Laning Road.   • In celebration of San Diego’s Chicano culture, lowrider classic cars, and the launch of McDonald’s new Cold Brew drinks, McDonald’s is hosting a Cold Brew and Cars event in partnership with Groupe NC Car Club.
