  • So often after we've lost someone we love, we also lose the opportunity to talk about them. Friends and family gradually stop bringing them up to avoid feelings of sadness over their passing. Before we know it, we haven't told those familiar, favorite stories, or talked about our loved one in a long time. Join us for a heartfelt evening to remember and honor those we have lost. Together, we’ll share stories, pictures, and keepsakes that celebrate their lives and the love that remains. The evening will be guided by grief counselors from The Elizabeth Hospice, and accompanied by the soothing resonance of singing bowls, led by Sherie Honarvar of Azadi Healing. This event is free and open to the public. Reservations are required at community@ehospice.org The Elizabeth Hospice on Facebook / Instagram

  • LOS/NR is proud to present the work of six impressive artists living and working in Los Angeles, curated by our guest curator, Jason Jenn. The exhibition gathers painting, assemblage, fiber-based art, and sculpture to explore the varied ways that time weaves itself into the human experience. Time can be sweet or savage in its treatment, and each piece offers a different perspective on life through its varied minutes and milestones, through gestures, textures, fragments, and forms. Through the exchange of materials, the artists chart emotional landscapes and trace the rhythms that shape our daily lives. What we choose to hold onto, what we take time to craft, and what we carry forward define the ways in which we come to comprehend "The Measure of Our Days." Participating artists are: Enrique Castrejon, Ellen Friedlander, Duane Paul, Joaquin Stacey-Calle, Kayla Tange, and Sean Yang. Enjoy free ice cream at the reception (while supplies last)! level of service not required on Instagram

  • Rafael Payare, conductor Karen Cargill, mezzo-soprano Mark Stone, baritone San Diego Symphony Orchestra R. STRAUSS: "Also sprach Zarathustra," Op. 30 BARTÓK: "Bluebeard’s Castle" Our season ends with two of the most spectacular and orchestrally overwhelming scores from the late romantic period: Richard Strauss’s epic tone-poem "Also sprach Zarathustra," inspired by Nietzsche’s account of the deep meditations of the half- mythical Persian hermit-philosopher Zoroaster; and Bartók’s dramatic fantasy "Bluebeard’s Castle," based on the ancient fairy-tale about a young woman who marries a mysterious aristocrat and discovers that he has terrible secrets kept behind locked doors. Both these magnificent works use extreme and glittering orchestral colors to represent the real colors of the world and the cosmos – dawn, sunlight, vast mountain views, sunset and the darkest night. And both are perfectly suited to our fabulous new acoustic in the Jacobs Music Center, and the beauty of the inside of our hall. San Diego Symphony on Facebook / Instagram
