This Week’s Performing Arts Will Be Located in Performance Lab D -10 Paul Tseng and Ching-Ming Cheng **Paul Tseng (cello) has performed in venues such as Avery Fisher Hall, Carnegie Hall, and the Cairo Royal Opera House. He holds a master’s and bachelor’s Degree from Juilliard, and a Doctorate from the Peabody Institute of Music of Johns Hopkins University specializing in Prokofiev’s cello music. Paul has served as principal cellist for various professional orchestras and holds degrees from the Juilliard School. He has taught in multiple colleges and while performing as a recitalist, chamber musician, and concerto soloist. As a founding member of the Logos Trio and artistic director of the San Diego Music Society, he oversees the Music by the Sea Concert Series in Encinitas, CA and the Intimate Classics Concert Series at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido. Dr. Ching-Ming Cheng (piano) professor and chair of the Music Department at CSU San Marcos, has been recognized with the Top Music Teacher Award from Steinway & Sons annually since 2016 and was inducted into their Teacher Hall of Fame in 2023. Originally from Taiwan, she began playing piano at five and has won several competitions, including a silver medal in the International Keyboard Odyssiad Piano Competition. Dr. Cheng holds degrees from National Taiwan Normal University and the University of Miami. An active performer, she has toured internationally and performed with various symphonies. She is also a dedicated faculty member, helping to expand the music department at CSUSM and establishing the first All-Steinway School in the region. Munson is the organist of the First United Methodist Church of Escondido, a Life Member of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) and current Dean of the Palomar Chapter of the AGO. He has concertized in Southern California, the eastern United States, and Europe. He has also given four concerts at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park as part of the weekly Sunday Concert Series there.** **Munson earned his Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Accompanying and Chamber Music from the Eastman School of Music in 1992. Since 1994, Dr. Munson has been working at Palomar College when he started accompanying ballet classes, which he still does. Currently, he teaches class and applied piano, plays for ballet, and accompanies the choirs and voice class. He has taught beginning piano, music theory, and organ. Recent engagements include performing with the Jacksonville Symphony, Orlando Philharmonic, Redlands Symphony, and being appointed principal harp of San Bernardino Symphony. Justine graduated from Northwestern University with a Masters in Harp Performance (‘21). Major teachers include Marguerite Lynn Williams (Lyric Opera & Northwestern) and Kayo Ishimaru-Fleisher (Jacksonville Symphony & Grant Park Symphony). This Week’s Performing Arts Will Be Located in Performance Lab D -10 Alyze Dreiling was born in Detroit, Michigan. She began her violin studies with Mischa Mischakoff .The Detroit Symphony and the Music Study Club of Metropolitan Detroit sponsored her education with Mischakoff. Ms. Dreiling graduated from Indiana University where she studied with Josef Gingold. She holds a BM in Violin Performance from Indiana University and MA from United States International University with an emphasis on Orchestral Performance. Ms. Dreiling was an invited semi- finalist in the European Union Conducting Competition in 2018. She has attended masterclasses with Zoltan Rozsnyai, Gunther Neuhold,, Neil Thomson and Dr. Scott Weiss and Philip Greenberg. Ms. Dreiling was the founding Artistic Director and Conductor of Classics for Kids and currently is Artistic Director and the Emeritus Conductor of YPO Festival Orchestra, Soloists Ensemble and Soloists Sinfonietta and was recently awarded 3nd prize in the American Prize Competition in the conductor of youth orchestra division. Highland Way Brian – As the founding member of Highland Way Brian is an enthusiastic and energetic singer and rhythm guitar player. Immersed in Celtic music while growing up in Glasgow, Scotland and having specialized in sound engineering at the prestigious Strathclyde University, Brian hit the road. Now residing in North San Diego County in California, he regularly plays live fronting the five / six piece Highland Way. Brian has successfully lead Highland Way to some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including the largest indoor theater in the USA, the 3000 seat Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield, the Redlands Bowl 5000 seat amphitheater and many others. When not performing, writing or producing under the ‘Highland Way Productions’ label you can find him shooting world class photos, walking his dog or riding waves. Paul – Lead Fiddle / mandolin / banjo/ bass and most anything with strings. Paul’s been playing fiddle and mandolin for over 50 years. Somewhere in that time he also picked up guitar, bass, banjo and keyboards. Paul’s an accomplished song writer and arranger having played with ‘The Chieftains’, ‘The Young Dubliners’, ‘Blended Spirits’, ‘Ken O’ Mally’, and regularly performed in LA’s oldest Irish Pub Molly Malone’s with ‘Garrison White’, and ‘Glen Cornick’, original bass player for ‘Jethro Tull’. A drawing's most profound potential lies in its ability to shape how we perceive and understand the world around us. Few means of expression can rival its directness. Drawing is personal, immediate, intentional, and reveals an artist’s state of mind. The Judith Harris Art Gallery at the Central Library is pleased to present The Drawing Show, a 25th anniversary exhibition championing skilled San Diego artists. The Visual Arts Program founder, Mark Elliot Lugo, curated the first inaugural Drawing Show which has included over 92 local artists in invitationals over the years. Lugo believed drawing is not just a skill, but an exercise in teaching the eye to “see” a process that transcends mere observation and encourages a deeper, more insightful perception. This year’s invitational features Celeste Byers, Hugo Crosthwaite, Steve Gibson, Amanda Kazemi, Neil Kendricks, Joshua Moreno, Annalise Neil, David Peña, Melanie Taylor, and Eden de la Vara—ten local artists who show us how they “see” through their exemplary mark making. From traditional figure renderings to imaginative constructs of landscape and abstraction, drawing remains a space of open experimentation, where the hand decides whether a piece is meant to convey deeper meaning or exist for mere play. Each mark sends a message—where past, present, and futures coexist. The Drawing Show invites the viewer to engage with drawing as more than just a tool or technique—it's a vital method of communication. A narrative serving a profound social function. The Visual Arts Program provides access and connection to the arts and culture landscape in San Diego, offering unique opportunities to local and regional artists. The entire Point Loma community is invited to make their unique mark on a community mural in this workshop where participants will learn about pattern-making from muralist and public artist, Molly Z, and then participate in creating a community mural that will be on display at Point Loma Church.
