Georgetown University is moving Let Freedom Ring, its annual event celebrating the life of Martin Luther King Jr., to the historical Howard Theatre in order to save money, the university said.

ArtReach's Art Camp is a dynamic, creativity-filled program led by the Studio Programs Team. Designed for elementary-aged students, each camp explores a unique theme through hands-on art projects, collaborative activities, and playful learning. Campers engage in daily lessons inspired by contemporary artists, outdoor play, meditation, and an end-of-camp art show that celebrates their work. Held in our studio space, our camp fosters imagination, confidence, and connection, while promoting ArtReach’s mission to make visual arts education accessible to all youth. Indigenous Peoples’ Day Craft Camp for Preschoolers! In this half-day Craft Camp, preschoolers will explore craft making and corn! First Nations Peoples of North America have been masters of art and craft for thousands of years. One very humble but beautiful craft is their functional arts using corn and corn husks. After corn is ripened and harvested it needs to be fully dried. To do this the husks were carefully braided to form a long strong strand. The braided strands were then hung in their dwellings for safe keeping. A side benefit is the braids are beautiful works of art that doubles as a highly nutritious food for later use. Another creative use for some of the leftover corn husks is corn husk figures. These could vary from female dolls with colorful dresses to stout men figures with traditional simple clothing. These figures could be for children’s play toys or ceremonial gatherings. In this class children will be corn shelling and creating corn husk figures. Free Art Classes for Teens (13–18 years old) Free Teen Art is a free program for teens, who are interested in art-making as an enrichment activity that goes beyond making crafts. The aim of the program is to provide a space for youth to create art, share stories, collaborate, explore, and identify new ways to use art in their lives. The Athenaeum offers facilities, resources, guidance, instruction, and support. The open studio program includes a rotation of multidisciplinary art instructors offering workshops in their respective fields, as well as curricular activities that involve the use of the Athenaeum library resources as a starting point for projects. Activities include drawing, painting, research, and introduction to various media. Jean Krumbein embraces all aspects of drawing. An artist, teacher, and model,; she is a guest artist/figure-drawing instructor for the Canyon Crest Academy EVA Conservatory program and Founder of the Encinitas Library Figure Drawing Group. A New York transplant, Jean studied at the Huntington Fine Arts League, Friends World College, and the Art Students League. She teaches at art retreats and workshops in Southern California, specializing in life drawing, portrait, and still-life drawing classes for adults and teens.
