  • Experience a transformative journey with "A Walk with Yáamay," a series of free, site-specific guided “art walks” presented by New Village Arts. Led by a council of Indigenous artists and curators, these immersive tours blend natural exploration with live poetry, song, visual art, and performance. Drawing inspiration from "Yáamay: An Anthology of Feminine Perspectives Across Indigenous California," this experience invites you to become part of the narrative. Every participant will be provided with a journal and pencil to capture personal reflections, sketches, and insights as the performance unfolds around them- as well as a copy of the anthology. The "A Walk with Yáamay" program is proud to partner with Queer Sol Collective, the poets of Yáamay, and local parks and recreation spaces to bring this experience to life.
  • Join ethnographer and musician Yale Strom for an online lecture exploring the deep and fascinating connections between Jewish culture and jazz. Drawing on decades of fieldwork, musicological research and artistic practice, Strom will uncover how Jewish musicians shaped one of America’s most iconic art forms. Yale Strom is one of the world's leading ethnographer-artists of klezmer and Romani music. He holds a master's degree in Yiddish Studies and has directed 10 award-winning documentary films, including The Last Klezmer (Oscar short-list). He has written 15 books, recorded 20 CDs, and served as Artist-in-Residence in Jewish Studies at San Diego State University from 2006 to 2020.   • We are pleased to announce the dates for the 27th Athenaeum Summer Festival, a series of four concerts that will feature virtuoso pianist Gustavo Romero. Continuing a beloved tradition, this summer Gustavo Romero will celebrate what he notes as Romantic Fire and the Spanish Soul, through a focus on the piano music of Hungarian Franz Liszt, and will be combined with works by Spanish composers Albeniz, Granados, and Manuel De Falla.   • The Athenaeum presents a local debut by the duo of pianist Emilio Solla and saxophonist Antonio Lizana. A Latin Grammy–winner and six-time Grammy nominee, Solla teams up for his 15th album, "El Siempre Mar," with rising-star Spanish flamenco-jazz vocalist and saxophonist Lizana. In their music, they join old Argentine folk songs with original compositions and a new take on Flamenco cantes de ida y vuelta (“roundtrip songs”) in a jazz setting.
