However, these plants are alive and serve as crucial habitats for numerous animal species. These habitats are home to resilient and adaptable species that have evolved to withstand harsh conditions, such as intense sunlight and water scarcity. It’s truly remarkable to consider the diversity and adaptations of these species. Join us for this hike along one of San Elijo’s coolest summertime trails to learn more. The event is weather permitting, and wildlife is unpredictable; there is no guarantee of what you will see. Nature Collective is a local conservation and science education nonprofit organization. They work to restore habitats, provide healthier waters, and increase wildlife diversity. They are dedicated to conserving the land and providing experiences for people to fall in love with nature. The Ivey Ranch Park Association is proud to host its 15th Annual Western Hoedown on Saturday, October 11 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Ivey Ranch Park Equestrian Center in Oceanside. This milestone year marks 15 years of bringing the community together for a relaxed, family-friendly afternoon of western-themed fun, all in support of the children and programs supported by Ivey Ranch Park. Guests can look forward to crowd favorites like horse-riding demonstrations, hayrides, music entertainment, steakhouse BBQ, raffles, a silent auction, a Kids Corral, ROTC Color Guard flag ceremony, and more. VIP guests will enjoy the comfort of reserved seating, table service, hors d’oeuvres, a steakhouse dinner, drinks, and raffle tickets in the VIP Lounge. General admission tickets are $85 and children’s general admission tickets are $65, with a $20 increase for each ticket at the door.   • Shelter to Soldier, a nonprofit organization that adopts dogs from local shelters and trains them to become service dogs for post 9/11 veterans suffering from invisible wounds, will host their 13th Annual ‘Be the Light’ Gala presented by SDBotox on August 24 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at L'Auberge Del Mar (1540 Camino Del Mar, Del Mar, CA). The event will raise critical funds for Shelter to Soldier's programs serving our nation's brave veterans and homeless dogs in need of a forever home and life of purpose. Guests will enjoy an evening of musical entertainment, libations and small bites, followed by a gourmet three-course dinner with sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and inspiring testimonials from veteran recipients. The celebration will include swag bags, memorable moments with Shelter to Soldier trainees, graduates and team members, and a lively silent and live auction, emceed by Clint Bell. As the organization’s largest fundraiser of the year, the Be the Light Gala plays a vital role in sustaining their programs year-round, primarily providing support to their psychiatric service dog training program.
