Please register and attend the Walk for Lives event in San Diego Sept. 20 at 11 a.m. Bear Roots will be leading the San Diego Walk for Lives. Our event, taking place in the Montgomery Waller Park will include a community walk followed by a health fair with speakers, resource booths, a memorial to honor those we have lost and so much more! We also have a special celebrity guest who we will ask to make an announcement soon! The most important thing is simply to show up. Come learn about the dangers of fentanyl and help us demonstrate power in numbers. Registration is free, and everyone is welcome. There’s also an option to purchase a Walk for Lives t-shirt—but that’s totally up to you! If you have an organization that is interested in tabling at this free event, please let me know! We are also looking for food and drink vendors (we will not be charging a vendor fee!) Held in OTC's Studio 219 (219 North Coast Highway), this is a space for all creatively-inclined people — artists, musicians, writers, and more — to showcase their work and to practice spontaneous creation together. It’s not quite an open mic, jam session, drum circle, or art night — but it has elements of all of these. All are welcome to participate as much or as little as they choose. From August 1-3, Old Town’s iconic Bazaar del Mundo Shops will present its Latin American Market, transforming its courtyard into a small marketplace with genuine folk art, handwoven textiles, stunning jewelry and meticulously crafted ceramic and clay pottery made by “The Best of the Best.” This is an opportunity for guests to take a timeless piece of culture, tradition and history home, and enjoy live demonstrations, Latin guitar serenades and award-winning Mexican cuisine from neighboring Casa Guadalajara. The California Surf Museum is proud to present a unique event held at Oceanside’s Veterans Association of North County acknowledging those who helped launch what became a worldwide phenomenon – skateboarding. “At the dawn of the 1960s, when the waves were flat, surfers were skateboarding,” notes Jim Kempton, Executive Director of the California Surf Museum in making the announcement. “Skateboarding at the time was the ‘boom within the boom’ as interest in both surfing and skateboarding skyrocketed. A development in one informed and advanced the other. This event is designed to celebrate those early years by honoring individuals who helped make it happen long before surfing and skateboarding ascended to become Olympic sports.” This skateboarding bash kicks off at 3 p.m. with cocktails, a silent auction and dinner. Proceeds from the “Rolling from the 60s into the 70s” event supports the work of the California Surf Museum and the Skateboarding Hall of Fame Museum. The highlight of the gathering will be the awards presentation honoring eight individuals with the “Silver Skater Award.” This award is presented by the California Surf Museum to skateboarders who have made significant contributions to the culture, evolution and support of the skateboard community and whose life has also inspired others by their example.
