The National Working Waterfront Network’s Conference is the only national event that brings together people from across North America to connect with one another and showcase initiatives that protect and promote working waterfronts. Working waterfronts include waterfront lands, waterfront infrastructure, and waterways that are used for water-dependent activities, such as ports, marinas, small recreational boat harbors, and fishing docks. By design, the conference moves around the country to highlight the diversity of our nation’s working waterfronts; to foster a cross-fertilization of ideas, knowledge, and solutions; and to generate strategic partnerships. The National Working Waterfront Network is pleased to be partnering with California Sea Grant to host the 2025 conference. The conference will take place from February 4 to February 6, 2025 in San Diego, California, with pre-conference events occurring on February 3. Website registration is closed. Purpose of the Conference *To connect and unite stakeholders from across the U.S., and to showcase innovative, successful, and timely solutions to waterfront and waterway issues. *To provide attendees an opportunity to network with others who are involved in the same types of professional issues and, together, develop strategies, timelines, funding sources, and regional alliances to address them. Program Structure *Plenary Sessions, which will feature leaders and keynote presenters from the working waterfronts and waterways community. *Traditional Concurrent Sessions, which will include 15-20 minute speaker talks accompanied by PowerPoint presentations. Concurrent sessions will be arranged from individual abstracts submitted on similar topics. *Breakout “Panel” Sessions, which will include 90-minute breakout sessions with a panel of speakers on topics related to a specific theme. *Roundtable Discussions, which will include 90-minute breakout sessions of a facilitated and interactive discussion with engaged attendees on specific topics. *Formal Poster Session, which will feature all NWWN Conference poster presentations. *Creative Communication Installations, includes an individual or team presentation, discussion or performance of art, media, film, poetry, etc.

"Fantastic Fish" Exhibition: Persian Place invites young artists in grades K-12 to participate in the "Fantastic Fish" art contest! This is a fantastic opportunity for students to showcase their creativity and have their artwork featured at the Museum of California Center for the Arts during our Nowruz celebration on March 15, 2025. This exhibition is presented by Persian Place and the Museum of California Center for the Arts in collaboration with Little Persian. Theme: "Fantastic Fish" From goldfish to koi fish, tropical fish, or even imaginary fish-let your creativity swim free! Any art medium is allowed (drawing, painting, mixed media, etc.). Grade groups & awards First, second, and third place winners will be selected from each grade group: - Grades K-5 - Grades 6-12 Judging criteria Entries will be judged based on originality, creativity, and theme representation. San Diego New Music Presents Shadings: Curated by Cellist Peter Ko Monday, March 17, 2025 CONCERT BEGINS AT 7:30 p.m. DOORS OPEN AT 7 p.m. “How far can we enter into a single moment, such that for that brief speck of time, for an instant, unison is registered?” This is the question that Charles Curtis poses in his liner notes for Tashi Wada’s Duets (2006–2008). Duets, starkly singular in focus and scope, centers around the concept of unison, complicated by issues of very gradual glissando, of descent—a process through which rich acoustical phenomena emerge, inviting the performers and listeners to deepen their perception ever further into a single moment. shade , illumination (2025) by Adam Zuckerman will be a new piece for solo cello, a commission and world premiere made generously possible thanks to San Diego New Music. Singular nodal points of the instrument are thoroughly explored, scanned through very gradual changes in pressures—through this process, what we may initially hear as a single acoustical structure is gently illuminated, in all of its various shadings. March is National Nutrition Month, and Scripps Cancer Center will host a free virtual class on Tuesday, March 18 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. to help cancer patients maintain the best possible nutrition as they go through treatments. Attendees will learn about optimal nutrition and hydration, food flexibility, the importance of adequate protein and calories, and nutritional options to address treatment-related side effects. Research shows that up to 80% of cancer patients in the United States are malnourished while undergoing treatments, which can hinder their outcomes.
