  • Join Palomar College's Pride Center for a very special screening of the new documentary "Sally!" followed by an in-person conversation with the film's Co-Director Ondine Rarey! The screening will take place on Palomar College's San Marcos campus on March 20 at 5 p.m. FILM SYNOPSIS: "Sally!" (2024) Sally Gearhart was a charismatic trailblazer who led the charge in the 1970s and '80s lesbian feminist movement, leaving an indelible mark on women’s rights and LGBTQ+ equality. A brilliant and magnetic superstar, she inspired thousands with her unapologetic activism and visionary leadership. Yet, by 2008, her pivotal contributions had been all but forgotten, her legacy notably absent from the Hollywood film Milk. How could history overlook Sally Gearhart? This is the story of a revolutionary figure who cannot be erased. SPECIAL GUEST: Ondine Rarey Ondine is a filmmaker, editor, and writer. Her documentary FOOLS AND HEROES was a Grimme-Preis nominee (the German equivalent of an Emmy), airing on ARTE in France as well as stateside on PBS. She has edited well over a dozen documentary features and shorts, including "Now en Español" (for PBS), "A Great Ride," "Who Will Write Our History" and, “Rebel Hearts” an official selection at Sundance 2021. She has also worked on multiple TV series, including KEEPING UP WITH THE KARDASHIANS and ALIEN ENCOUNTERS.

À Mes Yeux: In this solo exhibition, Minnie Valero presents paintings in various mediums, inspired by her frequent stays in France and the lasting impressions they left on her. About the artist: Minnie Valero, born in Argentina, is an accomplished artist with degrees from both Argentinian and American universities, including a Master’s from UCLA. Over the past 20 years, she has exhibited her work widely across the United States, France, and other European countries, as well as in Egypt, China, and South Korea. Honored as a guest at the Nepal International Watercolor Festival, Minnie has received numerous awards in France, South Korea, and the U.S. She has also participated in prestigious artist residencies in Sweden, Italy, Hungary, Costa Rica, and China, each culminating in a solo exhibition. Working with watercolor, acrylic, oil, and pastel, Minnie adapts her medium to reflect the essence of each piece. We explore the fusion between meditation, movement, community, and creation in an intimate container. This is a welcoming space to play, create, dream, evolve. The evening will begin with connected breath, coherent heart meditation, and eye gazing and then we will draw our muses. Open new channels of creativity and drop out of the thinking, judging mind, and into the body and its beautiful intuition. It’s not about being a professional artist, everyone has the capacity to create art and tap into their unique way of expressing it. 1-2 live nude figure models will begin with short poses for quick sketches and progress into longer 5-15 min held poses as we go deeper into the practice.   • The exhibition "La Jolla Surf: Culture, Art, Craft" invites viewers into the world of surfing through iconic photography by Roy Porello, Jeff Divine, and Ron Church, original artwork by award winning designer John Van Hamersveld, and surf boards from the greatest shapers in the region. A central focus of the exhibition is original interview footage with local surfers created by Curator John Durant. Visitors will hear firsthand accounts of how the surfing community developed, how it has evolved over time, and the powerful connection to, and appreciation of the ocean and nature that surfing engenders.
