This event delves into the power of collaboration and people-to-people diplomacy that made it possible to bring two giant pandas back to the San Diego Zoo. The San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance’s conservation scientists have pioneered partnerships with their Chinese counterparts, to protect and restore the giant panda’s population, habitats and food supply. Despite rising geopolitical tensions between the U.S. and China, the Alliance’s leadership succeeded in securing the return of the giant panda to San Diego in June 2024. Focusing on the achievements of bilateral conservation efforts and diplomacy, this event highlights both the challenges and the opportunities within U.S.-China collaboration. This public lecture is organized by the 21st Century China Center (21CCC) at the UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy. Concert Hour is a music enrichment series presented on the campus of Palomar College for our students, staff, and community by the Palomar College Performing Arts Department. Enjoy a range of exciting artists and musicians in the beautiful Howard Brubeck Theatre or Performance Lab D-10. This Week’s Performing Arts Will Be Located in Performance Lab D -10 Madelyn Byrne is an active composer of both acoustic and computer music. She is also a Professor of Music at Palomar College, where she has been on the faculty since 2000. Some recent compositions include Running and Reflection (composed for the Heartland Marimba Quartet), Flow (For the New York Composers Circle), and Awakening (Cal Poly Pomona Piano Ensemble, directed by Nadia Schpachenko).
