Dr. Annie Nguyen is an associate professor at the University of California, San Diego in the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science. She is also the Director of the School of Public Health’s Healthy Aging and Longevity Science Research Program. Prior to joining the faculty at UCSD, she spent nearly 10 years on the faculty at the University of Southern California, School of Medicine in the Department of Family Medicine. Dr. Nguyen received her PhD in Public and Community Health from the Medical College of Wisconsin and her MPH from Dartmouth College. Her federally-funded research portfolio focuses on promoting multiple aspects of healthy and resilient aging, with particular emphasis on priority populations facing structural disadvantage, including people living with HIV and people who have been incarcerated. Her work is grounded in community-based participatory research (CBPR) and she is committed to engaging communities as research partners and centering their voices in the research process. Dear Friends, The San Diego Catholic Worker (SDCW) invites you to attend and/or donate an auction item for our Annual Pasta Dinner and Silent Auction, to be held on May 30, 2026, at St. Mary Magdalene Parish Hall. This event is our main fundraiser and enables us to continue our crucial work of providing food and support to those in need. SDWC is a non-profit charitable organization, serving those in need through a variety of activities and works. These include weekly provision of prepared meals for the homeless at several locations, distribution of clothing and toiletries, and distribution of donated food to local families who depend on our help. The annual holiday of Juneteenth marks the historic date of June 19, 1865, when the last of the enslaved Black people in the United States finally learned of their freedom—a full two and a half years after the official signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. The activities planned for the Del Mar Fair serve a dual purpose. They honor this significant anniversary, marking the true abolition of slavery, and celebrate the achievements and contributions of Black Americans since emancipation. Festivities include performances by Blues man Lenny Fuzzy Rankin and solo jazz guitarist and singer Elliot Lawrence. Guests can enjoy line dancing with San Diego’s own ERRRVERYBODi Line Dancers, as well as drumming and dancing by the Worldbeat Center African Drummers & Dancers. There will also be music from DJ Kool T and spoken word performances by host Kendrick Dial.
