  • The National Endowment for the Arts, managed in California by the California Arts Council, and regionally by the City of San Diego Cultural Affairs in association with Write Out Loud, present Poetry Out Loud a national poetry recitation competition for high school students. The San Diego Regional Finals take place this year on Tuesday, February 3rd at 6 p.m. The event is free and the public is encouraged to join our student participants and their families at the Neil Morgan Auditorium at San Diego Central Library. Since the program began in 2005, more than four million students across the country have participated in Poetry Out Loud. For the 2026 Poetry Out Loud, students will present their recitations of works selected from the Poetry Out Loud Anthology. Performances are judged on criteria including voice and articulation, evidence of understanding, and accuracy. The National Endowment for the Arts has created free, standards-based curriculum materials to support Poetry Out Loud, including a teacher’s guide, lesson plans, an online anthology, posters, and video and audio on the art of recitation. You are invited into an evening of reflection, creativity, and heart-led connection. The Frequency of Love is a gently guided experience weaving together sound, intention, and intuitive creativity. Through a grounding sound bath, a guided sun catcher painting on acrylic, and the reflective wisdom of tarot, we’ll explore the many ways love moves through us. Love for self, for others, and for the present moment. The evening begins with painting a sun catcher on acrylic, designed to be accessible and intuitive, no art experience needed. This creative portion focuses on process over outcome, allowing color, movement, and intention to guide your piece. From there you'll be guided through meditation and a sound bath, using the soothing vibrations of quartz crystal singing bowls to help calm the nervous system and open the heart space. We’ll close with tarot, offering gentle insight and symbolic reflection around love, connection, and inner truth. This is a supportive, judgment-free space meant for slowing down, exploring, and creating from the heart. Featured artists include established educators, independent practitioners, and early-career artists who are affiliated with our California Community College and university educational systems.
