Quint Gallery is hosting an afternoon pop-up at their Santa Fe St. warehouse location, featuring Abraham Razo (signs as Dhef and Rancholo), a Mexicali based graffiti artist. His distinctive and instantly recognizable style of loopy circles, often with smiles or suggesting animal elements, manages to be both fierce and playful at the same time. You will have the opportunity to explore the exhibition Reconsidering Rembrandt: Night Watching 2019 by contemporary Dutch photographer Rineke Dijkstra, hear talks on works in the Timken's permanent collection, and receive a lesson plan that supports and encourages the development of empathy in students. All attendees will have a chance to network with other educators over wine and light appetizers and receive free bus transportation to the Timken for their classrooms. The term "Catholic Counter-Reformation Art" describes the more stringent, doctrinal style of Christian art developed during the period c.1560-1700, in response to Martin Luther's revolt against Rome (1517) and the Protestant Reformation. This stricter style of Catholic Biblical art was designed to highlight the theological differences between Catholicism and Protestantism, by focusing on the mysteries of the faith, as well as the roles of the Virgin Mary and the Saints." The German Renaissance, which was part of the Northern Renaissance, was an artistic and cultural advancement that spread among German intellectuals during the 15th and 16th centuries. German humanism evolved at this time in various German states and principalities. Importantly Germany produced two crucial developments that were to dominate the 16th century all over Europe: printing and the Protestant Reformation. Perhaps the most influential artist of the 16th century from this country was Albrecht Dürer. He was known for his painting, printmaking and engraving, as was the artist Lucas Cranach the Elder. Cranach was the court painter to the Electors of Saxony.
