Celebrate the summer solstice with two ocean-loving poets—North County's own Carly Marie DeMento and surfer Michael Klam. Join them for the release of two new books—the "2025-2026 San Diego Poetry Annual" and Klam's latest collection of poetry and visual art, "Stay There," Garden Oak Press: 2026. Carly Marie DeMento is a poet and third-generation San Diegan. Her poetry has appeared in the North American Review, Kestrel, and Green Hills Literary Lantern—and been hung in the best spot of all: friends' kitchens. Nominated for Best New Poets in 2025, Carly's work is supported by Bread Loaf Writers' Conference. She is the co-creator of "Desire, Calling"—a reading series that features queer writers, a dance party, and a fundraiser for local nonprofits. Michael Klam is associate publisher of the San Diego Poetry Annual. He is editor-in-chief of the bilingual edition of the SDPA. Klam hosts San Diego Central Library’s Conversations with Poets. His books include "The Cheapest Flight to Paradise" (Puna Press: 2017), "Anything for a Dull Moment" (Garden Oak Press: 2020), and "Stay There" (Garden Oak Press: 2026).

Enjoy the contemporary/ancient art of storytelling, alive and well, in the secluded and enchanting garden space of the San Diego Chinese Historical Museum, in the heart of downtown. Tales from the Asian Pacific Rim will delight all from ages 12 and up. Dynamic members of Storytellers of San Diego are there to weave the spell of cultural and heritage stories, bringing them vividly to life in this intimate garden oasis. Meet Jim Dieckmann, James Nelson-Lucas and Fred Laskowski in an afternoon to stir the imagination. Spend time at the gallery exhibit, and then relax in the garden setting to stories.

SEEK FEST is a one-day San Diego music, art, and craft beer mini-festival presented by the San Diego Music & Art Company, The Blank Slate, and Seek Beer Company. The event brings together a wide-ranging lineup of local and touring musicians spanning jazz, prog rock, psych/funk, metal, hip-hop, and experimental pop, alongside local visual artists, fashion designers, food vendors, massage therapists, live painting, and live chainstitching. Designed as a cross-disciplinary gathering for San Diego’s independent creative community, SEEK FEST highlights musicians, artists, makers, and small local businesses in one shared space. Ticket proceeds support low-income musicians in San Diego via the Musicians Empowerment Collective, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, and admission includes beer from Seek Beer Company for guests 21+. The event takes place Saturday, May 30 at San Diego Made Factory on Commercial Street.

As part of the monthly First Friday event at Liberty Station, we hold an open house at Inspirations Gallery so that you can enjoy the artwork on our walls, talk to fellow writers, and snack on a few treats. We are currently hosting a photography exhibit by Patrick McMahon. "Abtsraction": A collection of extreme close up photographs enlarged to engage the viewer in wonder and curiosity. The San Diego Museum of Art Artists Guild presents "The Art of Now: Pushing Boundaries," a juried exhibition by Max Presneill of The Torrance Art Museum. Swizz Beats and Alicia Keys' exhibit at MCASD includes more than 130 works by Black diaspora artists, alongside an adjacent exhibition of local photography. Admission is free for the public opening Saturday, April 18.

"LOBA" is an immersive ritual theatre performance inspired by "Women Who Run with the Wolves" by Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés.
