He will present several public projects that his team has implemented in Pune to inspire students and staff from different disciplines to take active roles in promoting better visual culture in their cities. He is the founder of Pune Biennale- a festival of art, design and architecture – and has organized three successful editions of Pune Biennale in 2013, 2015 and 2017 in partnership with Pune Municipal Corporation. Drawing on several projects, he will discuss a range of topics around grass-roots activism, social art, stakeholder engagement and conceptualizing projects to improve aesthetics in public spaces using public art and co-creation in cultural production.   • One of the most legendary bands to hail from San Diego, the B-Side Players have spent the last three decades establishing a reputation as one of the most eclectic, genre-defining bands of their day. The nine-member band can hardly be described using typical genre conventions, blending elements of funk, rock, jazz, and hip-hop with gritty street samba, Cumbia, and other sounds common in Latin America. Their Dec. 7 performance at UC San Diego’s Park & Market marks their final show of the year and celebrates the last 30 years of their prolific career. The 90-minute performance will also feature an intimate Q&A with the audience, during which fans can hear unheard insights about the band’s history.   • There’s a new stand-up comedy showcase in town–UC San Diego’s Park & Market’s Comedy Night at the Guggenheim presented by Mark Christopher Lawrence. The third show in the series brings Marine Corps veteran and America’s Got Talent alum James P. Connolly to the Guggenheim Theatre on Friday, October 18, from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. L.A.-based musical comedy duo The SHOW with Adam & Sean and Coronado comedian Sue Shirey are also slated for sets, alongside a musical performance from San Diego ukelele duo Tricia Lynn Naval & Joyce Mendez. Each of the Comedy Night at the Guggenheim shows features a collection of clean, family-friendly comedians curated by host Mark Christopher Lawrence. Lawrence is best known for his role as Big Mike on NBC’s Chuck, in which he was a series regular for four seasons. In addition to his acting work, Lawrence is a nationally touring stand-up comedian who has toured with comic legends like Sinbad, Jerry Seinfeld, and Rodney Dangerfield.
