On Saturday, September 20 at 7:30 p.m., internationally acclaimed jazz vocalist and peace advocate Sacha Boutros will debut "Paris After Dark" at the Baker-Baum Concert Hall, The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center. The concert launches the new "Music Without Borders" series with an evening that celebrates 100 years of French and American music. Audiences will be transported from La Jolla to the heart of Paris through a repertoire spanning jazz, chanson, and international pop, from Cole Porter to Serge Gainsbourg. Boutros will be joined by Parisian trumpet legend Stéphane Belmondo and an ensemble of world-class musicians for this special CD release concert. “This concert is a love letter to Paris and to humanity,” says Boutros. “In a time when the world feels divided, music reminds us we share a common language, one that heals and unites.” Through her nonprofit, Sacha’s Supper Club, Boutros turns concerts like "Paris After Dark" into fundraisers that directly support music education in Barrio Logan, San Ysidro, and Tijuana. This mission reflects a family legacy of cultural service, inspired by her grandmother Lupe Cázares, founder of San Ysidro Health Centers. She decides to travel back to Japan in order to work, a country she knows since she was born there. She gets a one year work contract for the Yumimoto company. This job, more than she hope for, will bring her many surprises, from which she will learn various lessons... The main character is, of course, Amélie Nothomb herself, who writes autobiographically. Fear and trembling is a humble, funny and intelligent point of view from a young woman confronted to a new world. The message it carries could be : Let’s observe and listen carefully, before we hastily judge the Other. Cycle through scenic areas of San Diego on November 8th to support pancreatic cancer research in the 12th Annual Jim Krause Memorial Charity Cycling Ride the Point. The ride starts and ends at Liberty Station and includes exclusive routes through Point Loma, Ocean Beach, Mission Bay La Jolla, Torrey Pines, and Sorrento Valley. This ride takes participants through historic neighborhoods and past some of the most scenic areas of San Diego, some that are only open once a year for this event. The event has hundreds of volunteers along the route, SAG, and five fully stocked rest stops to support the riders. Ride the Point has three distances to accommodate diverse levels of cycling experience. The 5-mile Family Fun Ride is a relatively flat course on bike paths along beautiful San Diego Bay and is perfect for cruisers, beginning riders, challenged athletes, and families. Otay Ranch Town Center in Chula Vista will mark Hispanic Heritage Month with its annual Celebration and Family Festival on Tuesday, September 30 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The popular retail and dining destination in eastern Chula Vista is proud to once again host this community celebration filled with live music, cultural performances and free fun for the whole family celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month which runs September 15 to October 15.
