The San Diego Central Library is hosting a series of panels for teachers and librarians during Comic-Con weekend.

Valley Arts Festival (VAF) is an annual celebration of Oceanside and its first peoples, today known as the San Luis Rey Band of Mission Indians, one of the seven tribes of the Luiseño nation. The Luiseño are an indigenous people of California who inhabited the coastal area of Southern California. This year’s free family-friendly festival, themed “Kíicha Nights, Coyote Dreams© “, expands upon the success of the last three years, and will feature even more activities and vendors. VAF is made possible in part by Prebys Foundation and Title Sponsorship by Visit Oceanside. Previous festivals included: • Live Native American flute music with Spiritual Storm • Live Native American blues music with Tracy Lee Nelson • Live Native American storytelling • Interactive community murals for youth and adults • Interactive basket weaving with the Paa'ila Basket Weavers led by Diania Caudell • Native American artists and vendors, including flutes, drums, clothing, and jewelry • Multiple participatory activities for all ages including rock and gourd painting and jewelry making • Indian Fry Bread for purchase This year’s festival will also include: • Live Native American drumming with Dancing Cloud Drumming Circle • Live interactive dancing demonstrations for youth and adults • Enhanced educational area including a three-quarter size Kíicha (traditional home of the Luiseño people, a dome shaped structure made of tule reeds and/or willow branches)

The Storytelling Institute, a free seven-week course presented by the Storytellers of San Diego, is open to everyone who would like to hone their skills in this ancient art form. The Institute culminates in an optional storytelling slot for each participant at the San Diego Storytelling Festival here at the Coronado Public Library on March 15, 2025. A highly-anticipated 7+ stage, 80+ bands, 3-day music, culinary and arts festival will descend upon the stunning waterfront of downtown San Diego all along the Embarcadero. Expressive Arts @ 32 & Thorn features surrealist artist Ty Bennett whose recent work is a response to a period of deep reflection after a devastating fire in Colorado that destroyed all his possessions. His colorful and intense surrealist paintings express his passions of art, philosophy, and poetry. Exhibit runs February 8 through March 29, 2025. Her book reflects her personal journey and professional insights, offering a unique perspective on life in a new country. With a Master’s in Social Psychology and degrees in Teaching, Health Promotion, and Organizational Development, Claude is fluent in English, French, German, and Italian, and continues to perfect her Spanish. - Kitty Morse, an award-winning author born in Casablanca, Morocco, intertwines personal history and culinary heritage in Bitter Sweet: A Wartime Journal and Heirloom Recipes from Occupied France. Inspired by family documents discovered after her mother’s passing in 2017, the memoir delves into her great-grandfather’s journal detailing the German advance in Le Grand Est (Alsace/Lorraine) in 1940, and her great-grandmother’s notebooks containing 65 heirloom recipes. The story unfolds in Nancy and "Châlons-en-Champagne," blending the cuisine bourgeoise of her Ashkenazi ancestors with poignant family history. Kitty’s maternal great-grandmother, Blanche Lévy-Neymarck, perished in Auschwitz, leaving a legacy of resilience, memory, and culinary artistry. More about Daria Samokhina Daria graduated in French literature at Notre Dame (MA) and Stanford (Ph.D.).
