  • The Vista Garden Club will put on its 90th Flower Show 'Garden Magic', May 2-3 at the Jim Porter Recreation Center, Brengle Terrace Park, 1200 Vale Terrace Drive. The plant and garden art sale is from noon to 5 p.m. May 2, with flower show open from 2 to 5 p.m. The sale and show will both be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 3. Admission is free. Since the band’s co-founder, lead-singer and chief lyricist Mike Love penned the lyrics to The Beach Boys’ first hit, “Surfin’” (1961), dozens of the bands chart toppers have become eternal anthems of American youth: “Surfin’ USA,” “Surfer Girl,” “Fun, Fun, Fun,” “I Get Around,” “California Girls,” “Help Me Rhonda,” “Barbara Ann,” “Good Vibrations,” “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” “Rock and Roll Music” and “Kokomo.” The Beach Boys have sold over 100 million records worldwide and have received more than 33 RIAA Platinum and Gold record awards. The Rock & Roll Hall of Famers were also honored at the 2001 Grammy Awards with the Lifetime Achievement Award.   • Join the Downtown San Diego Partnership’s Clean & Safe Program for a community clean up at Pantoja Park and the surrounding neighborhood. The morning begins promptly at 9 a.m. with a warm welcome and a brief safety overview before volunteers head out to their assigned areas. Volunteers are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and closed toe shoes. Depending on the weather, consider bringing sunblock, a hat, or a light sweater. All necessary clean up tools and supplies will be provided by the Clean & Safe team—all you need to bring is your energy and community spirit. Join tens of thousands of visitors for two stages of live music, community mural projects, Artists’ Alley featuring handmade items from local artisans, food and merchandise vendors, multiple Fun Zone Locations for the family, the famous Chili Cook-Off, and more. The Ocean Beergarden will be rockin’ all day for guests 21+ looking to enjoy an ice-cold brew or cocktail with an ocean view. Located near the main stage, guests can enjoy live music throughout the day. The OB Dirty Birds Wing Eating Contest and Hodad’s Burger Eating Contest will take place in the afternoon on the main stage. The Chili Cook-Off features awards for the Judges’ Award, and the Grand Prize: People’s Choice. With both amateur and restaurant divisions, chili tastings are available, or attendees can purchase a Master Ticket for $30 to sample every entry and vote for their favorite. The Ocean Beach Street Fair & Chili Cook-Off presented by Buzz Cannabis takes place Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the 4800–5000 blocks of Newport Avenue and along the waterfront. Free parking is available at the Sun Runner parking lot on Sea World Drive along Pacific Coast Highway.
