This unforgettable evening will transport the audience through a collection of timeless songs from these legendary artists, each performance evoking deep memories and emotions. With a 14-piece Mariachi accompanied by a 10-piece Symphony Orchestra, the show promises to be an emotional celebration of Mexico's musical heritage. Mariachi Champaña Nevin, who has been performing together internationally for the past five years, will bring the sounds of Mexico to life in a unique and breathtaking way. This will be the group’s first performance in San Diego this year. Producer and promoter Javier Lugo, who grew up listening to the music of Fernández, Gabriel, and Dúrcal, has big plans to take this tribute on the road to share their unforgettable legacy with even more audiences. Opening Saturday, April 11, 2026, the exhibition is inspired by the resistance, cultural pride, and community movement surrounding Chicano Park Day (April 25) and will be on view throughout that weekend. Through visual art, archival materials, photography, and storytelling, "Viva La Raza" brings together multiple perspectives reflecting the history, culture, and creative spirit of San Diego’s Chican@ community. The exhibition features Aztlan Archives as a central historical anchor, a focus on the Queer Chicanx experience in collaboration with Lambda Archives of San Diego, a community-led photography exhibition by Manuel Ceniceros and "All For Logan," and a solo presentation of new works by BRISK ONE. Together, these elements highlight both the legacy and ongoing evolution of the movement in San Diego. Designed as an intimate and meaningful gathering, the luncheon offers attendees a direct connection to McAlister Institute’s mission and impact across San Diego County. This year also marks a period of exciting growth for the organization, including the introduction of Incidental Medical Services at its Lemon Grove Campus—home to adult detoxification and residential programs such as the Kiva Women & Children’s Learning Center—as well as a major rebrand and plans for a new campus to expand access to care.
