Taking place on Saturday, June 6 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sunday, June 7 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., EXPO is a two-day event series built to showcase the best of publishing, design, music, and community within San Diego and its neighboring communities across Southern California at a moment when access to arts funding and cultural spaces is increasingly uncertain. At its core, EXPO is an exchange of ideas, networking, and collaboration meant to encourage meaningful connection, and is guided by MCASD’s mission to inspire expansive thinking and an inclusive world through contemporary art. The weekend will be filled with goods for sale by local vendors, curated DJ sets, and thought-provoking artist talks. At a time when public investment in arts and culture faces mounting pressure, EXPO underscores the vital role of independent artists, designers, and cultural workers in shaping an inclusive and resilient creative ecosystem. • Andy McKee is a world-renowned guitarist from Kansas, best known for his original compositions for steel-string acoustic guitar. After discovering the music of modern fingerstyle players like Michael Hedges, Preston Reed, and Don Ross as a teenager, McKee turned away from the electric guitar and devoted himself to exploring the possibilities of the acoustic, using altered tunings, tapping, partial capos, and percussive techniques to transform a single instrument into a full orchestra. In 2006, his original composition "Drifting" became one of the first viral videos on YouTube, and several other pieces including "Rylynn," "For My Father," and "Into the Ocean" soon followed. To date, his videos have accumulated hundreds of millions of views and inspired a new generation of fingerstyle guitarists worldwide. Artists like John Petrucci, Prince, Eric Johnson, Steve Lukather, and David Foster have recognized his talent, recording or touring with him over the years. Beyond performing in over 40 countries as a soloist, McKee founded the Musicarium in 2015, a premier fingerstyle guitar camp that has featured guest instructors including Tommy Emmanuel, Eric Johnson, Stanley Jordan, and Don Ross. In 2024 he joined forces with Trevor Gordon Hall and Calum Graham to release tripliciti, an acclaimed acoustic guitar trio project. 2025 brings a new solo guitar album and a 20th anniversary re-recording of Art of Motion.
