The Chicano Block Party is an annual celebration of Chicano art, culture, and community presented by the California Center for the Arts Museum in honor of Chicano Heritage Month in California. Inspired by the exhibitions and artists featured at the Museum, the event brings together artists, musicians, lowrider clubs, community organizations, and visitors for a day of art, music, food, and cultural programming. Event Highlights Lowrider Car Show Presented in collaboration with Lady Lowriders Car Club, the car show celebrates the craftsmanship, creativity, and cultural traditions of lowrider culture. Art Market & Printmaking Fair Browse original artwork, prints, zines, books, apparel, and handmade goods from local artists, publishers, and independent vendors. The Museum Sculpture Courtyard will also feature live printmaking demonstrations and hands-on activities organized in collaboration with the San Diego Printmaking Society. Construction at historic Brooks Theatre pushes Oceanside International Film Festival events to Star Theatre.

Celebrate Native American culture and community with the Barona Band of Mission Indians at the 54th Annual Barona Powwow over Labor Day Weekend. The three-day celebration begins on Friday, September 4 with gourd dancing at 6 p.m. followed by a grand entry of dancers in full regalia at 8 p.m. The event continues Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. Admission and parking are free. Hundreds of Native American dancers from across the country will compete and showcase traditional and contemporary dance styles including the Fancy Shawl Dance and Grass Dance. Alongside the dancing, visitors can enjoy Hand Drum contests, singing, drumming, and food favorites like Indian fry bread tacos. A wide selection of arts, crafts, and handmade jewelry will also be available from local and traveling vendors. The Barona Powwow takes place at the Barona Sports Complex on the Barona Indian Reservation, located just one mile north of Barona Resort & Casino on Wildcat Canyon Road in Lakeside. Harboring the spirit of indie maverick John Cassavetes and shot fully on location in LA, "Situations" stars Greg Vrotsos ("Orange is the New Black," "Twin Peaks: The Return") as an LA based photographer drifting through Silverlake’s creative chaos three months after a painful breakup—dodging well-meaning friends, career pressures, and fleeting flings—until an unexpected connection forces him to confront what he truly wants from love, art, and himself. ABOUT THE FILMMAKER Greg Vrotsos is a Boston-born, bi-coastal filmmaker known for his dynamic storytelling and keen eye for character-driven narratives. With over a decade of experience in this film and television industry, Greg has built a reputation for collaborating with some of the most respected talents in Hollywood. His work spans acclaimed television series such as Netflix’s "Orange Is The New Black," HBO’s "Vinyl," and David Lynch’s "Twin Peaks: The Return," as well as major studio films including "Empire State" and "The Boston Strangler." Ukrainian Heritage Celebration 2026 on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Ingram Plaza in Liberty Station. Many of these entrepreneurs came to San Diego after being displaced by the war in Ukraine. They are now rebuilding their lives, establishing local businesses, creating jobs, and sharing Ukrainian food, art, products, and traditions with the broader community. Their journeys offer meaningful local stories of resilience, entrepreneurship, and cultural preservation.
