  • Sarah Stieber presents the 4th annual Sarah Stieber Gallery in Little Italy, unveiling her latest collection titled the "Integration Series." The experiential pop-up gallery will be open to the public from April 8 – June 17, with a grand opening celebration taking place on April 18. The figurative series explores multifaceted identities, illustrated by the illusion of overlapping transparent colors made entirely from cut and pasted tape. Known for integrating her art with the public through large-scale murals and immersive events, this year’s gallery concept is no exception. When visitors enter the gallery, they will feel like they are stepping into one of Stieber’s colorful, sparkling paintings and can engage with a host of experiential features. Visitors can step into a custom Polaroid photo ‘art booth’ adorned with colored transparencies to snap Polaroids of themselves, creating instant self-portraits in Stieber’s signature style and becoming part of the art themselves. In a special collaboration with Topo Chico Mineral Water, the brand will introduce "Sabores," their newest line of flavored sparkling waters, at the gallery in weekly "Sabores Saturdays" events. This public event series will feature live music, allowing visitors to sample the new flavors in a festive atmosphere.   • Mainly Mozart and Tijuana community-based organization Promotora De Las Bellas Artes have partnered for a bi-national project to raise awareness for ocean conservation and the care and importance of our shared Cali-Baja Coast. Part of this program is a free community concert, “The Sea Unites Us,” May 5 at 5 p.m. at the UC San Diego Epstein Family Amphitheater. The Mainly Mozart Youth Orchestra will be joined by members of Tijuana’s Promotora de las Bellas Artes Children’s Choir, the San Diego Children’s Choir, and the SDSU Chamber Choir, as well as musicians and singers from the Baja California and Los Angeles regions performing works highlighting the importance of the shared Cali-Baja coast. Led by Maestro Hernan Constantino, the concert will feature new music from renowned Mexico City singer, conductor and composer Jorge Cózatl whose piece was inspired by research provided by the Walter Munk Foundation for the Oceans (WMFO) as well as the environmental learning and experiences of the students of Promotora de las Bellas Artes choir.   • Devoted to partnering with Native communities through the arts, MCASD is partnering with the Barona Cultural Center & Museum and Barona Indian Charter School to present a unique showcase featuring artwork created by 8th-grade students. The exhibit called Muuyaawkeh! (You Should Know!) is the name of the student-led exhibit and is an attempt at educating a wider audience off the reservation with a goal to show MCASD visitors the importance of protecting the pollinators and their Native habitat/plants.
