  • Volunteers needed on Stewardship Saturday—a weekly opportunity to help restore and care for the historic montane forests of Volcan Mountain. Join our reforestation team for a full day on the mountain as we plant the next generation of trees. Volunteers will help establish coulter pine, bigcone Douglas-fir, and incense cedar across priority restoration sites. The day begins at 8 a.m. at VMF's Sky Island basecamp with coffee, a short orientation, and hands-on training in silviculture best practices. We’ll introduce the landscape, explain how planting locations are selected, and share how volunteers contribute to our broader restoration strategy. For those interested, optional sessions will also explore place-based decision-making, field data entry, adaptive management, and long-term monitoring. After orientation, volunteers will form small planting crews and head into the field to begin hard, fun work on the mountain! Planting will wrap up around 2:30 p.m. (earlier departures are always fine). Afterwards, we’ll gather just 10 minutes down Wynola Road for an informal Happy Hour at Calico Cidery, an organic orchard-based taproom serving natural wine, farm-style cider, and local non-alcoholic beverages. Whether you’re a seasoned planter or brand new to restoration work, we’d love to have you join us as we rebuild this forest together. MUST REGISTER: www.VolcanMt.org/4-4-26-Tree-Planting Date: Saturday, April 4 Time: 8 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Meeting Location: VMF’s Volcan Mountain Nature Center, Julian, CA Volcan Mountain Foundation on Facebook

In recognition of Foster Care Awareness Month, the free, community-centered event will bring together nonprofit organizations, community leaders, volunteers, and young people looking for a path to success for an afternoon of connection, celebration, and collaboration. Moving beyond a traditional resource fair, the festival is designed as an immersive experience that strengthens connections across people and services. It focuses on building a more coordinated and accessible support system for transition-age foster youth and other underserved populations. The event will bring together hundreds of young people seeking pathways to stability, alongside community leaders, families, and friends working to build meaningful relationships and advance a more connected, solutions-based model of support. Attendees from the broader community will also have the opportunity to connect with organizations, explore volunteer opportunities, and learn how to get involved in supporting local youth. The event will feature approximately 40 participating organizations offering resources across a wide range of services, including housing, education, job training, mental health support, financial literacy, and health services. Participating organizations will engage directly with attendees, showcase their impact, and connect with other peer organizations to identify gaps they can address together, helping to build stronger, more collaborative partnerships. Attendees can expect a lively, family-friendly atmosphere with live entertainment, interactive experiences, and local food. The event will feature a performance by San Diego-based artist Divina Jasso, along with entertainment from magician The Amazing Dana. Guests can also participate in yoga sessions, enjoy an open-air glam booth, and hear directly from two JIT youth speakers sharing their personal stories. A lineup of local food trucks, including Dirty Birds, Born in Brooklyn, Dilly’s Ice Cream, and Juicy Shawarma, will be on-site throughout the event. More than just a one-day event, “Igniting Hope, Building CommUNITY” represents a broader shift toward collaboration in the nonprofit sector, bringing organizations together to better serve individuals who need a reliable, connected network of support. Participating organizations include: Promises2Kids Youth Assistance Coalition Urban Street Angels YMCA Doors of Change Home Start California Youth Connection Our Arts Community Resource Center Kitchens for Good United 4 Youth And more! • Spring into Action: Support Canyon Crest Academy's Red Cross Club First Ever Blood Drive This spring, the students of Canyon Crest Academy’s Red Cross Club have been volunteering in the area, and they need your help! On Monday, April 27, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 334 14th St Del Mar, Calif. 92014, the club will host its first-ever blood drive, bringing their energy, creativity, and big hearts to support patients in need. This group of 50 club members have already made a remarkable impact this year: collecting over 400+ toiletry donations with Torrey Pines Red Cross, raising more than $450 for National Red Cross funding, and creating hundreds of handmade cards for local veterans. Now, they’re taking their contributions one step further, organizing a blood drive to help ensure trauma victims, surgery patients, and those battling cancer or sickle cell disease have lifesaving blood available. Why Your Donation Matters: Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. By donating, you’ll help save lives, and encourage these hardworking students in their mission to give back. Each donation is able to save up to 3 lives, and around 40 donors are required to raise an ample amount of blood. How to Participate: Register online at https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/drive-results?zipSponsor=stpetersdelmar to donate! Complete a RapidPass® online health history questionnaire to save time at check-in Bring a blood donor card, driver’s license, or two other forms of ID Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements. Benefits for Donors: $15 E-Gift Card of your choosing Snacks and a spring-themed surprise treat These students have spent the season planning every detail of this drive, hoping to inspire their community and give the gift of life. Roll up your sleeves, celebrate the season of renewal, and join Canyon Crest Academy’s Red Cross Club this April 27 at St. Peter's Church Del Mar to make a difference this Spring.
