Four out of five people with lupus are women, and the disease disproportionately affects women of color. In lupus, the immune system, which is designed to protect against infection, produces autoantibodies that mistake the body’s own cells as foreign, causing other immune cells to attack organs such as the kidneys, brain, heart, lungs and skin, as well as blood and joints. For information on the event visit: LupusResearch.org or contact Joanne Golombos directly at jgolombos@lupusresearch.org or 732-610-2267.
