For decades, billions of gallons of sewage and industrial waste have been dumped into the Tijuana River. Recent research shows this chronically contaminated watershed in Southern California is also polluting the air.

Across San Diego County and beyond, many families raising a child with a disability have quietly stopped attending church, not because they stopped believing, but because their church did not know how to welcome and support them well. The Disability Ministry Conference exists to help change that. On September 18 and 19, 2026, ministry leaders, volunteers, educators, advocates, and parents will gather at Foothills Church in El Cajon for two days of practical training, connection, and resources focused on building communities where every family belongs. Hosted by Miracle 139 International, a San Diego based nonprofit, the conference features biblical teaching, breakout sessions led by experienced practitioners, an exhibitor hall of disability ministry resources, and an international showcase highlighting work happening around the world. Attendees will also take part in a buddy bag packing event, assembling supply bags for partner ministries internationally. This Sunday, May 31 beginning at 7 a.m., the American Lung Association in California’s annual "LUNG FORCE" Walk will take place at the Carlsbad Flower Fields. This family-friendly event raises critical funds for lifesaving research, early detection initiatives, programs and services to help achieve a world free of lung cancer and lung disease. Why: Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer deaths in California and across the U.S. Someone is diagnosed with the disease about every two minutes. But there is hope. More people are surviving lung cancer than ever due to increased awareness and advancements in detection and treatment. The five-year survival rate has increased to nearly 30%, which is a 26% increase over the last five years. The San Diego "LUNG FORCE" Walk has raised millions since 2014 to help end lung cancer. Nationally, "LUNG FORCE" has raised more than $35 million for lifesaving lung cancer research.
