San Diegans could get a little break from scorching temperatures through the middle of this week.

The immensely popular summer "Salsa Under the Stars" returns this summer to Otay Ranch Town Center in Chula Vista. Running from mid July until mid September, the series will feature the Manny Cepeda Orchestra quartet and offer energetic Latin music and dancing for all ages during the center's popular weekly Farmers Market. Salsa Under the Stars will run from 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. on select Tuesdays: - July 14 - July 28 - August 11 - August 25 - September 15 (special hours 4 - 7 p.m. -- Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration) "This free program has proven extremely popular with our community, perfect for anyone interested in getting their salsa on," said Otay Ranch Town Center General Manager Tim Kilcourse. Originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico, bandleader Manny Cepeda has both a Bachelors in Music Education and Masters in Music and retired from the Navy as the top Enlisted Bandmaster after 31 years of service. "Café con Pam," the San Diego podcast that has spent ten years telling the stories of Latine, BIPOC founders and first generation leaders, is throwing a slumber party for its tenth birthday. Pajamas required. The night opens with "Future Tuesday," a live workshop on guided journaling and practical nervous system tools built around one question: what if your future is something you can remember instead of something you have to chase? Every guest takes home the first edition of the "Future Tuesday" journal. Then host Pam Covarrubias records a live episode called "The Unmuted Room." The audience brings the real questions and gets coached on the record. Also in the room: chef prepared pajama food including popcorn with olive oil and gluten free artisanal corn dogs, a goodie bag stocked by local and national businesses, and a virtual debrief session a few weeks after the event, included with every ticket. In an age of digital immediacy, what continues to draw us to books? Curt Sherman will share a selection of his one-of-a-kind artist books, alongside the sources that inspired them. Spanning topics from the history of the alphabet and "Katagami" (Japanese stencils) to Walt Whitman and the First World War, his works combine varied processes with text and poetry that reflect each theme. A former professor of design, interior design, and furniture design, Sherman taught for 35 years. He co-authored "Architecture and Interior Design: An Integrated History to the Present" (Prentice Hall, 2012), a standard text in the field. In retirement, he returned to an early interest in typography, studying at Bayside Press and the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library Print Studio. His work has been exhibited widely, including the Athenaeum Juried Exhibition, and featured in the 2025 San Diego Book Arts Highlights publication.
