The City of Chula Vista, in collaboration with the South Bay Sustainable Communities Network, is issuing a community-wide call for volunteers to join the 22nd Annual Beautify Chula Vista Day on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 8 a.m. to noon. This much-anticipated neighborhood cleanup event aims to engage residents in hands-on beautification efforts across the city. In 2024, over 400 dedicated volunteers removed thousands of pounds of litter and graffiti, making a visible and lasting impact on Chula Vista’s neighborhoods, creeks, and canyons. Now in its 22nd year, Beautify Chula Vista Day continues this powerful tradition of civic engagement and environmental stewardship. Volunteers can choose to begin their day at either Loma Verde Community Center, located at 1420 Loma Lane, or Chula Vista City Hall, located at 276 Fourth Avenue. Upon arrival, participants will check in with event leads, complete a safety orientation, and receive cleanup supplies and instructions for the day’s efforts. All volunteers must register in advance at www.BeautifyChulaVista.org. Participants are asked to provide their own transportation and to wear appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes. They should also bring work gloves, a refillable water bottle, and any snacks or lunch they may need. This event also qualifies for student community service hours. With more than 400 volunteers needed, the event will focus on removing graffiti, collecting litter, and restoring the visual appeal of streets, parks, and public spaces. This is a prime opportunity for residents, families, students, and local organizations to come together, give back, and take pride in their community. Bach Collegium San Diego Presents Knock out Sounds with Reginald Mobley The Return of Bach to Bop Bach Collegium San Diego (BCSD), one of the country’s leading baroque ensembles, is performing with countertenor d'Amore Reginald Mobley who showcases the thin lines between the worlds of baroque and jazz. The repertoire, from J.S. Bach and Purcell to Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald, explores the world of improvisation, ornamentation, pulsating bass lines, and most importantly, groove. “When exploring the world of Baroque music and where it intersects with jazz, who better to lead the way than one of the great countertenors of this generation, Reginald Mobley,” said BCSD Musical Director Ruben Valenzuela. “We're incredibly fortunate to have him back with BCSD after the success of Bach to Bop from a few years ago. Get ready...from Purcell and Bach to Sarah Vaughan and Duke Ellington!" BCSD partnered with local schools to develop an education curriculum surrounding this program and the similarities and differences (and historical timeline of the genres) of baroque and jazz music. The pilot program is in development but BCSD is planning on having the students perform a piece or two on the concert program as a culmination of this special program. Bach Collegium San Diego engages audiences with accessible, historically informed performances and educational programs featuring repertoire from the Renaissance, Baroque, and early Classical eras. Visions Museum of Textile Art (VMOTA) is proud to announce the opening of "Interpretations 2025," the museum’s 26th international juried exhibition. Exhibition jurors, Holly Brackmann, Luisa Gil Fandino, and Paula Kovarik examined over 400 submissions of innovative textile artworks that explore the form and technique of 2D artworks, 2D art quilts, and 3D pieces that highlight fiber. Many of the juried pieces explore themes of transformation - whether related to gender identity, cognitive shifts, family dynamics, environmental devastation, or community change. Using recycled materials, natural dyes, and inventive techniques, the artists interpret their lived experiences with originality and courage. This exhibit is presented alongside "Fiber Art Now's juried ARTwear" exhibit featuring art that was designed to be featured on the body, created and constructed with textile materials and techniques.
