The acclaimed work from filmmaker Patrick Wang, featuring a remarkable performance from actress Tyne Daly, is the story of The Bread Factory, a community arts center in the small town of Checkford, told in two films. Part two revolves around rehearsals for the Greek play Hecuba. But the real theatrics are outside the theater where the town has been invaded by bizarre tourists and mysterious tech start-up workers. Multi-disciplinary artist and muralist Thao Huynh French was recently commissioned to create two murals for San Diego Mesa College’s KUP Village in the Student Services building. Thao and her husband founded Mindful Murals and they have painted over 400 murals. Born in Vietnam and raised in California, Thao’s artistic practice is heavily influenced by her Asian American heritage, her experience as a refugee, and an appreciation for nature, particularly flowers, which she considers symbols of resilience and transformation. "Future Flowers: Memory, Meaning, Mischief" is Thao’s debut solo exhibition and it features paintings, interactive installations and archival materials on the theme of refugee history and experiences while providing a place for sharing and connection. The exhibit also delves into Asian American life, cultural memory and nostalgia, which Thao interprets through the use of traditional Vietnamese dresses, Lunar New Year customs and decorations, immigrant food, lively pop culture, and even conflict. House of Outcasts presents “A Mythical Quest,” a fantasy comedy filled with magic, adventure and mythical creatures. A young fanatic named Odin travels to a magical realm to save his fiancée, Olivia, after she mysteriously becomes deathly ill. To save her life, Odin must join forces with a band of mythical creatures and embark on a quest to obtain a healing potion from the Witch Queen of the Seven Realms. Performances run July 23 through August 9, 2026, at the Tenth Avenue Arts Center in downtown San Diego. Viewer discretion advised: This production contains live stage combat, strong language, sexual innuendo and elaborate special effects. Susie Benchasil Seiter, conductor San Diego Symphony Orchestra "The Ring" – the landmark psychological horror film directed by Gore Verbinski – comes to Jacobs Music Center for a one-night-only concert performance. The film will be shown on the big screen as the San Diego Symphony Orchestra performs Hans Zimmer’s haunting score, conducted by Susie Benchasil Seiter. One of the most iconic modern-day horror films, the tale begins when the bizarre death of a teenage girl leads journalist Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts) to investigate a mysterious urban legend. In a cabin she discovers a videocassette containing disturbing imagery, and anyone who views the tape receives a chilling phone call from an unknown voice warning “seven days.” In the liner notes of the original motion picture soundtrack, composer Hans Zimmer describes the score’s minimalist, unsettling approach as essential to the film’s creeping dread and psychological tension. "The Ring," released by DreamWorks Pictures in 2002, helped redefine modern horror and remains one of the most influential psychological thrillers of its era.
