The concert opens with the ballet music from Idomeneo, Mozart’s first mature opera, written at age 24 for a grand Munich celebration. Its Chaconne – composed in a creative burst just before the premiere – combines elegance and vitality, recalling the glittering court ballets of Versailles. Benedetto Lupo performs the Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major, completed in 1786 alongside "The Marriage of Figaro." Often described as Mozart’s most perfect concerto, it blends radiant lyricism with delicate melancholy, sunlight touched by shadow. Both works capture his uncanny gift for expressing the full range of human emotion through music of clarity and grace. The concert concludes with Symphony No. 41 in C Major, “Jupiter,” Mozart’s final symphony and one of the greatest achievements in Western music. Composed – alongside two companion works – in the miraculous summer of 1788, it unites brilliance and grandeur in a dazzling finale of contrapuntal mastery that anticipates Beethoven while recalling Bach. Together, these pieces reveal Mozart at his height: a composer of boundless imagination and emotional truth whose music continues to astonish with its vitality, balance, and transcendence. Beyond the Basics! This advanced beginner-level class is perfect for students who have completed either Crochet 101, our 3-Week Crochet Fundamentals, or already know the fundamental crochet stitches (chain, single crochet, double crochet). This session focuses on expanding your stitch repertoire with more complex and fun stitches, such as the puff stitch, V-stitch, shell stitch, and how to read more involved patterns. Students will work on a small coaster using the new crochet stitches learned. All materials are provided, including yarn, hooks, and a booklet. If you wish to bring your own supplies, please bring worsted-weight (4) yarn and a 5.0 mm (H-8) hook. Margaritaville Hotel San Diego Gaslamp Quarter is turning good vibes into a great cause with its annual Day of Service, a global celebration honoring the legacy of Jimmy Buffett. On Friday, September 4, the hotel’s rooftop 5 o’Clock Somewhere Bar will come alive with live music, tropical cocktails and island-inspired fun from 5 to 9 p.m., all in support of the San Diego Music Foundation. The free, community-driven event invites guests to enjoy a sunset celebration while giving back, with a benefit concert headlined by Buffett Beach Band, a travel-themed silent auction and interactive experiences that capture the spirit of Buffett’s laid-back lifestyle and commitment to service. Throughout the evening, a portion of food and beverage sales, along with silent auction proceeds, will directly benefit the San Diego Music Foundation, supporting local music education and outreach programs. Convivio, a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening community through the celebration of Italian culture and intercultural experiences, invites the community for an evening of music, dancing, and nostalgia at Rock & Roll Revival, a 1950’s themed fundraiser on Sunday, July 26, from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at AmiciBar (250 W. Date St., San Diego, CA 92101) in Little Italy. Guests ages 18 and older are invited to enjoy an evening featuring classic 1950s-inspired food, cocktails, soda pop, sweet treats, and old-fashioned root beer floats. Attendees can dance the night away as a live disc jockey spins the iconic hits of the era. Attendees are encouraged to embrace the spirit of the decade by dressing in their favorite 1950s attire, including poodle skirts, leather jackets, rolled-up jeans, loafers, and other retro-inspired fashions.
