Scientists expand research on deep rooted plants’ ability to remove carbon from the atmosphere

Friday, October 30, from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. A Reason to Survive (ARTS) is excited to announce its upcoming Día de los Muertos and Undas Festival. This free event invites the community to honor the past and celebrate the present through culturally rooted art experiences that bring together Mexican and Filipino traditions, pay tribute to departed ancestors, and carry ARTS’ 25-year legacy forward. In collaboration with the Institute for Public Strategies, the festival will feature student art on display at the ARTS Gallery, a vendors market in the newly renovated Visual ARTS Room, patio performances, and a community altar where visitors are encouraged to bring and place photos of their departed loved ones. The event will also feature art workshops, face painting, and a special trunk-or-treat Halloween activity hosted by Domestic Car Club. Learn to needle felt! Saturday, September 26, from 1-5 p.m. Beginners welcome! Ages 10+years! Create a beautiful wool “painting” using the forgiving technique of 2D needle felting, taught by artist Valerie Hebert. Using a barbed needle and loose wool fiber, you’ll learn how to transfer a drawing onto wool and “color it in” with an array of vibrant fibers. This meditative art process is wonderfully absorbing, and Valerie will guide you through each technique step‑by‑step. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have created your own finished masterpiece. Optional frames will be available for purchase at the end of class if you’d like to display your artwork. No experience necessary. Ages 10+ welcome.
