Explore media, techniques, & creativity in a supportive, skill-building environment. The Annual Figure Drawing and Painting Studio Hone your skills and try new techniques to define the human form in this art workshop! You’ll use different media, wet and dry, on both large and small-scale canvas and paper. Your creation could even be a great holiday gift for a loved one! "Backyard Wilderness" will surprise and entertain viewers with the unexpected wonders of nature that are right under our noses - in our own backyards. Spanning a seasonal year around a suburban home, the film displays a stunning array of unique wildlife images and behavior–all captured by cameras mounted inside dens and nests, and moving along the forest floor and pond bottom, to reveal its inhabitants in rare and breathtaking intimacy. We follow Katie, a young girl, and her modern family living next to the woods who are blind to the real-life spectacle around them, absorbed by an array of electronic devices in their busy lives. Katie gradually discovers the intricate secrets that nature has hidden so close to her front door and we experience the joy she finds in her interactions with this new world. She is thrilled to begin a new chapter as an art teacher. She especially enjoys mixed media and three-dimensional art. The genre of short story is an art unto itself. In this course, we’ll take our cue from acclaimed short story collections from authors such as Jhumpa Lahiri and Flannery O’Connor and practice weaving tight and entire short-form narratives. In a typical class, we’ll spend 10-15 minutes examining a text, and use that as a launching point to generate during the remainder of the time.
