Please reserve your seat in advance as tickets will not be available at the door. **Masks are required for all audience members.** About the Program: "Girldream" (1996) by Chelsea Zeffiro is a series of danced vignettes rooted in sensorial explorations of wish, play, and dream. The dance is the culmination of a task-based and improvisatory process with the DISCO RIOT company dancers. This work is accompanied by a digital mixtape which she has assembled during our process and which serves as a dedication to the performers. Marty Dorado is excited to present a new dance work in honor of his 10 year anniversary of moving to San Diego. His piece highlights the stories of four characters who use their past experiences to inspire their future paths in life. A dance of survival, friendship, and transformation, Hourglass Alchemy by Zaquia Mahler Salinas explores the questions: what are our inherited traumas, inherited triumphs, and inherited magic? The duet, performed with Chelsea Zeffiro, is dedicated to Desiree Cuizon. Anna Brown Massey’s newest work brings joyful, riotous fun to this Scottish fever dream of a dance. Massey highlights DISCO RIOT’s gift for musical virtuosity and explosive power to celebrate kinship and determination. Come for the art, stay for the party! Visit Disco Riot on Facebook+ Instagram
  • From '5 works of art to see in San Diego in March' (KPBS feature): On view at Quint ONE in Bread and Salt through Apr. 16, 2022 Thousands of toothpicks, and nothing else. Sculptor and "Genius Grant" recipient Tara Donovan's 2004 work, "Untitled (Toothpicks)" will be in town at Quint ONE in Logan Heights to baffle you in person. It's a feat of gravity and friction (and the repetitive properties of mass-produced consumer goods), Donovan has formed a massive cube that even in the humblest of photographs looks unreal. And the scale is kind of the point: how many toothpicks does it take before we no longer register it as a toothpick? Toothpicks will "shed" throughout the course of the installation and the composition of the cube will naturally shift. To protect it, the gallery will keep the doors closed. If you visit during Bread and Salt open hours, you can still peek through the doors' narrow windows, or you can make an appointment at info@quintgallery.com — or check it out on Saturday, Mar. 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the ICE Gallery reception for Jamie Franks. —Julia Dixon Evans, KPBS Quint ONE, 1955 Julian Ave., Logan Heights. • When was the last time you had a sound bath? Christ Lutheran Church in Pacific Beach will host Juan Lozano, AMFT, for a free sound bowl workshop. He will begin by guiding participants through a brief breath work exercise, which helps the mind drop into a meditative space. Juan will then evoke an organic composition of sound waves using a variety of primitive instruments, such as drums and rain sticks, to compliment the sounds of the bowls. A sound bath is a healing somatic experience backed by neuroscience. The benefits of sound healing are both unique and varied for each individual undergoing the experience. From simply being a relaxing activity to having such an impact as easing symptoms of depression and anxiety, the sound waves emitted from the bowls allow participants to slip into a deep state of relaxation.
