Spend a summer evening at San Diego Botanic Garden during Summer Nights on Thursday, August 6. The Yamoakas and Company trio, featuring Korrie Yamaoka, Jason Yamaoka, and Davy Rockett, weave together indie, folk, and jazz influences into a sound that draws listeners in. Inspired by the emotional storytelling of Norah Jones, the artistry of Regina Spektor, the theatrical depth of Rufus Wainwright, and the dynamic edge of Muse, their music blends warmth, nuance, and memorable melody. Admission begins at 4 p.m., with music going from 5:30 p.m.-7:15 p.m. Guests can enjoy the concert while exploring the Garden's 37-acres of lush landscapes and ocean-view pathways during extended evening hours. A bar with craft beer, wine, non-alcoholic drinks, and light snacks will be available each night. Guests are also welcome to bring their own food and non-alcoholic drinks. Storytellers of San Diego take the Moxie stage and break the fourth wall! This event is more than a Shakespearean aside to the audience. Storytellers directly engage the audience, and take their cues from the audience, wrapping all in the cast spell of Midsummer's Tales. An evening is told out with personal tales, folkloric and literary tales; something for everyone. Midsummer's tale tellers are Lissette Ryan with harp and Tyler Turner, Fred Laskowski, Tammy Burmeister, David Schmidt, Mindy Donner, and Kirk Faulkner. In celebration of Juneteenth, several events are happening around San Diego County this weekend to bring people together through music, food, community activities and more.

First, we’ll tell you how new CalFresh work requirements impact the budget approved by county supervisors. Also, we’ll tell you why water is set to cost more across the county. Next, a decision will soon be made regarding a half-century-long battle to save some green space for a park in Emerald Hills. Next, we took a trip over to Tijuana where Haitians have built a vibrant community; we joined them as they cheered on their World Cup team. And, some weekend event ideas across the county that you and yours could take part in.

To develop the plan, city leaders worked with the San Ysidro business community. Revenue collected from the meters is reserved for transportation, parking and safety improvements in San Ysidro.

Cat Gunn’s first solo museum exhibition, "if only by the light of a new moon," explores the complex terrain of inherited memory and the seemingly impossible nostalgia for a home one has never known — an experience familiar to immigrants, first-generation children, and anyone displaced by colonialism, war, or occupation. Gunn’s mother, Lida, grew up in poverty in post-war Manila. In the late 1970s she met Richard, an American working as a Vietnamese linguist with the US Air Force. They married and settled in Baltimore, where Gunn was raised. Whether because of the language barrier, faulty memories, or a reluctance to speak of hard times, Lida’s story — and by extension Gunn’s own Filipino heritage — has remained largely inaccessible to them. Developed during Gunn’s year-long residency at ICA San Diego in 2025, the exhibition dissects the mechanisms of collective forgetting that often erase colonial conquest and imperial violence, asking who controls these narratives and why crucial information often remains withheld. Tuesdays, July 21 & August 4, from 6-8:30 p.m. Ages 15+ welcome! In this 2-part series, students will learn the basics of handbuilding to create functional and fun pieces. Working with mid fire clay, we will build our pieces and utilize decorative techniques to create one of a kind ceramic planter pots. Students will create and build their piece in the first class and glaze their creations in the last class. Students will learn the art of glazing, with many decorative techniques. Students will be able to utilize a wide array of glazes and colors in this course. No experience necessary. All materials provided. Additional optional materials available via the instructor for a fee.
