The City of Carlsbad is bringing back the past at the Hot Rods & Cool Treats carnival and classic car show. Grab the family and come on out for some good old-fashioned fun. It’s an old-fashioned carnival at Pine Avenue Park with activities for the young and young at heart. Test your game skills in Can-Knock-Down, Ring Toss, Frog Hopper, and more. Enjoy crafts, face painting, and a Fun Zone. Build your own sundae at the ice cream bar and vote on your favorite car in the classic car show. Enjoy live music covering decades of sounds. Carnival tickets, food, and drinks are available for purchase at the event. How to enter your car: Cars are eligible to win in only one category. Entries will be limited to automobiles 25 years old or older, no buses or semi-trailer rigs. All participants will receive an event collectors dash plate. Join us for the annual Independence Parade as it makes it way north on Coast Highway from Wisconsin Avenue to Civic Center Drive (just past City Hall). Come see floats, bands, walking groups, cool cars, and more. Our theme this year is "CELEBRATING OUR HERITAGE." A local tradition since 1892, the Oceanside Independence Parade is made possible by the assistance of over 100 volunteers. Viewing of the parade is available from the sidewalks along the entire route. Spectators are encouraged to bring folding chairs. The highest concentration of viewers will be on the north end of the route past Seagaze Drive. Parking Street parking is available on the residential side streets that run parallel to the entire route (Freeman and Tremont Streets). Over 1,000 parking spaces are available in the downtown parking lots and the parking structure (to enter the downtown area from the East, you will have to cross Coast Highway at Oceanside Blvd. or Surfrider Way). The Enchanted Garden is filled with homes for fairies, hobbits, gnomes, dwarves, trolls, elves, and even baby dragons! There are over 100 structures built into the Garden. There will be Halloween candy and a mild level of scary decorations suitable for all ages. Costumes are welcome but not required. Handicapped access is available. There is no charge to walk through the Garden but donations of food stuffs to help feed our neighbors in need are welcome.
