Featuring the Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus of North America (UBC), under the direction of artistic director Oleh Mahlay, and the one-of-a-kind 60-stringed bandura. The UBC, a 2025 recipient of the NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS National Heritage Fellowship Award recipient, comes to Arizona with its Все буде Україна -- Ukraine Lives! concert program. The ensemble, established in Kyiv, Ukraine in 1918, established itself in North America in 1949 after a turbulent and perilous history. Over the past century, the ensemble has performed in Carnegie Hall, Massey Hall, Lincoln Center, the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, touching and inspiring hundreds of thousands of listeners with its performances, educational programs, and extensive discography. The ensemble continues to amplify Ukraine’s voice and to highlight the culture's history and identity. This performance is more than just music: It is a celebration of Ukraine's cultural heritage and resilience. Join UC San Diego Library for a lively evening of art, conversation and discovery featuring artist DeLoss McGraw in dialogue with San Diego art critic, historian and educator Bob Pincus. The program will begin with opening remarks by Lynda Claassen, Director of UC San Diego Library’s Special Collections & Archives. Drawing on his 25-year tenure as art critic for The San Diego Union-Tribune (1985–2010) and his work for the Los Angeles Times, Pincus and McGraw will offer an insider’s perspective on the exhibition "DeLoss McGraw: Painter-Poet" — on view for a limited time at Geisel Library. Arts Unite at Oceanside Theatre Company (217 N. Coast Highway) launches its inaugural play reading series celebrating the work of military veteran playwrights — an evening of bold, diverse storytelling shaped by lived experience. Directed by Liz Frances, the program features six short plays by local writers Peter Mitsopoulos, Victor Lang, Mark Holley, Laura Vines, Scooter, and Janiece Jordan. While the playwrights share a background of military service, the stories themselves span a wide range of themes, styles, and experiences. The evening will conclude with a conversation with the artists, offering audiences a chance to engage more deeply with the work and creating space for dialogue, reflection, and connection.
