Expanding the notion of “family” beyond bloodline or inheritance, the exhibition embraces broader forms of collectivity—chosen families, cultural lineages, ideological kinships, and experiences—that serve as touchstones for our shared existence. At its core, "Becoming Heirlooms" considers the moment when a crafted object transcends authorship and utility to become a site of collective feeling—when an artist’s intention resonates beyond the individual viewer and ignites a shared emotional consciousness. These works become gathering points for empathy, reflection, and recognition, binding communities through the realities of the world they inhabit together. Brix Wines, an award-winning, couple-owned San Diego winery, is partnering with FMI, a San Diego-based wine club that hosts culinary and wine pop-up events across the city, to host a Chef Pop-Up with MabuHI at its flagship tasting room in the North City district in San Marcos. Taking place on Saturday, July 25 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., guests are invited to sip J. Brix's natural wines by the glass or bottle while enjoying chef-driven cuisine and live DJ sets in a relaxed indoor-outdoor setting.
