  • Learn to Sew & Hem! This class is a continuation of the Family and Beginner Sewing 101. In this next series, Instructor Hannah Gioutlos will guide you through the process of sewing a drawstring backpack. We will learn how to place our pattern on your fabric and cut it out with scissors or a rotary cutter. Then we will show tips on using a seam gauge to find the hem allowance. Next we will learn the proper way to press our fabric into place to get ready for hemming. For students who complete this project early, you can also learn to sew a pet bandana for your furry friends. REQUIREMENT: If you are new to using a sewing machine, you must take Family & Beginner Sewing 101 | Sewing Machine Basics first. In order to enroll in 102, a student must know how to thread and use a/their sewing machine and be comfortable with beginner sewing techniques. FABRIC CHOICE: All materials are included. If you’d like to bring your own fabric to sew with, students must bring at minimum a half yard or two fat quarters of 100% cotton quilting or cotton canvas. Cotton jersey and stretchy fabrics will not be sewn in this class. MACHINE CHOICE: It’s ideal to bring your own sewing machine for this class, but you may also borrow and learn on one of ours. Please note if bringing your own sewing machine it is very important to make sure it is fully functional. No experience necessary. Materials included. Ages 12+ years are welcome. Ages 7+ must attend with an adult to assist! ***If you’re attending with your child, and participating only as support, just purchase 1 space. If you both will learn and create a project side-by-side, please purchase 2 spaces. Please be punctual to this class. Students who show up more than 15 min late will not be able to catch up, and will be turned away to keep the class on schedule. Plan ahead for traffic and parking. Family & Beginner Sewing is a fun sewing series aimed at acquainting students with a/their sewing machines, beginning with the basics and growing skills. This class, 102, is the second in the series.
