Enjoy a full day of wildlife, nature and family fun at Animals on the Bay Day at the Living Coast Discovery Center on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is just $5 per person and includes access to all exhibits, presentations and event activities. Get up close with the Living Coast’s animal ambassadors and enjoy special eagle, shark and ray, sea turtle and urban wildlife presentations, plus arts and crafts, exploration stations and guided nature walks on the San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge. More than a dozen environmental and community organizations will also offer interactive activities focused on science, wildlife and conservation. All educational presentations will be offered in English, Spanish and American Sign Language (ASL). Families can also pick up a free nature journal and earn an exclusive Animals on the Bay Day 2026 sticker by completing activities throughout the day, while supplies last. Food and drinks will be available for purchase from local vendors, or guests may bring a picnic lunch. Tickets: Advance purchase is strongly recommended. Bressi Ranch Village Center, an open-air shopping center in the heart of the Bressi Ranch community in Carlsbad, California, will host a “Halloween Spooktacular” celebration from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 31st, in the Bressi Ranch Park. The festivities will feature Halloween-themed crafts, bubble play, a balloon artist, a DJ, a photo opportunity, popcorn and cider. Children are encouraged to dress in their Halloween costumes and participate in a costume contest. This event is free and open to the public; no pre-registration is required to attend. The La Jolla Christmas Parade & Holiday Festival returns Sunday, December 6, 2026, for its 70th year with the theme, “A Village Christmas – Celebrating 70 Years of Holiday Tradition.” The beloved La Jolla Christmas Parade begins at 1 p.m. and brings the streets of the Village to life with marching bands, creative floats, equestrian units, vintage vehicles, canine groups, community leaders, local schools, and service organizations. The celebration continues at the La Jolla Recreation Center with the Holiday Festival from 1–5 p.m., featuring arts & crafts, hands-on educational activities, robotics and technology, community groups, local animal rescues, games, live music and performances, pony rides, bouncy houses, face painting, and a special visit with Santa following the parade. New for 2026, the Village Christmas Market will feature local makers, artisans, small businesses, and vendors, offering a festive shopping experience as part of this year’s celebration. Sounds by the Sea, the festival’s live music and performing arts component, will feature performances throughout the afternoon on the Recreation Center lawn. The Carlsbad Village Street Faire runs on the first Sunday of May and November. The Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce organizes the event, which features 900 arts and crafts booths, antiques, international food court, a huge section with children’s rides, an entertainment stage, and beer garden. The Street Faire takes place in the Downtown Village of Carlsbad. Car Parking Parking for this very popular event is limited, so visitors are encouraged to use the complimentary shuttles that run to and from the faire every 15 minutes. The shuttle pick-up locations are at the northwest corner of Sears at Shoppes at Carlsbad Plaza Camino Real (Highway 78 and Jefferson) as well as at the Poinsettia Coaster Station (Poinsettia exit off of I-5). There will be a limited amount of handicapped parking throughout the event. San Diego poet laureate Paola Capó-García has co-curated a unique exhibition of "video poems" by local poets and artists, opening Oct. 24 at the Athenaeum Art Center in Logan Heights.

Guests entering the exhibit will walk beneath a canopy of giant cloth monarch butterflies, representing their journey across North America, before seeing artist Itzel Islas' illustration of Lake Xochimilco and hand-painted graphic signage about Xochimilco created by Oscar Ríos and David Mondragon.

Cellist Paul Tseng and pianist Ching-Ming Cheng return to Intimate Classics at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido, for an afternoon of beautiful music, captivating stories, and a journey from the Classical era into the heart of Romanticism. Bridge to the Romantic Era explores the remarkable transformation of music through works by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, and Saint-Saëns. The program opens with Beethoven's delightful variations on a theme from Handel's "Judas Maccabaeus," followed by his dramatic Sonata No. 2 in G minor, an early masterpiece that already hints at the emotional intensity of the Romantic era. Mendelssohn's exquisite "Romance Without Words," written for the young French cellist Lise Cristiani, offers a moment of tenderness and lyrical beauty. The afternoon culminates in Saint-Saëns' magnificent Sonata No. 1 in C minor, a work of sweeping emotion, virtuosity, and dramatic power. Along the way, Tseng will share personal stories and insights into the composers and their music, inviting audiences to discover the human stories behind these extraordinary works. Back for its 29th incredible year, the family favorite features the songs “Santa for a Day,” “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch,” and “Welcome, Christmas (Fah Who Doraze),” the delightful carol from the popular animated version of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" Celebrate the holidays as the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe’s Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, is once again transformed into the snow-covered Who-ville, right down to the last can of Who-hash.
