  • Reception: Friday, Apr. 8 from 6-9 p.m. [RSVP HERE] or on view by appointment through Apr. 22, 2022. [Schedule a Viewing Appointment] About the artist: Amel Janae is a painter, turned photographer and seamstress who focuses on the human form throughout all her mediums. Most recently, Janae has honed in on self portraiture. With the original intention of self-reflection in mind, Janae has brought it to life by seeing her body through a lens outside of her own. That lens revealed a view of herself she had been waiting to see in real time. Attributes within herself that can be dissected in a visual image. Through Amel Janae’s use of chiaroscuro in her self portraits, she reveals only certain parts of herself. Despite knowing the beauty of the entirety, Janae anticipates that other parts (which she loves, but is hesitant to share) will be noticed, despite them being in the dark. Janae describes this body of work as a coming to terms with how she views herself, and letting go of how others do. Under My Skin will be the first true view inside Amel Janae’s mind.
