Kick off the 13th season of the First Friday Art Walk Oceanside on Friday, May 1 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in downtown Oceanside. This free, family-friendly event features over 60 local artists, makers, and creatives showcasing unique, handmade work in Artist Alley and the Civic Center Library Plaza, along with live music throughout the evening. Returning for its second year, the After Art Party continues from 8 to 9 p.m. with a live performance by Jaco Mello on the Civic Center Library Plaza stage. In conjunction with the Art Walk, the Oceanside Museum of Art will offer free admission from 5 to 8 p.m., including a docent-led tour at 6 p.m. and a cash bar with beer and wine. A new fine art photography exhibition, “Where Land, Light, & Water Meet: San Diego and Beyond,” by photographer Clay Myers‑Bowman opens July 12 at Nainsook Framing + Art in La Mesa, California. The solo exhibit runs July 12 through September 12 at Nainsook Framing + Art, 8130 La Mesa Boulevard, La Mesa, CA 91942, with an opening reception and book signing on Sunday, July 12, from 2 to 5 p.m. Myers‑Bowman previously lived in San Diego, and many of the photographs in this exhibition were created during that time in beloved coastal and inland locations throughout San Diego County. The exhibit is accompanied by a new photography book of the same title, “Where Land, Light, & Water Meet: San Diego and Beyond,” which invites viewers and readers into quiet, luminous moments where shifting light, still water, and familiar shores meet. “I am grateful for the chance to bring this work back to San Diego and La Mesa,” said Myers‑Bowman. “So many of these photographs were made here, and it feels special to share them with the community that helped shape both my life and my eye.” Nainsook Framing + Art on Facebook / Instagram

Maruja Limón is a Barcelona-based female sextet who have spent a decade blending flamenco with Latin rhythms, pop, and experimental electronic textures. Performing from their EP "Te como la cara," they explore Catalan music, flamenco, and Latin rumba fused with electronic sounds, dembow, salsa, and pop — delivering explosive music with lyrics that balance sensitivity and irony. Formed in 2014, they gained recognition in Billboard’s On the Radar Latin section following their debut at the Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC) in New York. In January 2025, Maruja Limón embarked on their first U.S. tour, captivating audiences at iconic venues including Lincoln Center in New York, the Kennedy Center in Washington, and Philadelphia. Tenor saxophone and highly inventive vocalist! Camille Thurman is a powerhouse multi-instrumentalist and vocalist whose fluid tenor saxophone work and inventive singing place her among today’s leading voices in jazz. Equally adept on bass clarinet, flute, and piccolo, she has performed with an extraordinary range of luminaries—from Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra to Kenny Barron, Roy Haynes, Diana Krall, Chaka Khan, and Alicia Keys. A New York City native, she is a two-time ASCAP Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composers Award winner, a Fulbright Scholar, and runner-up in the Sarah Vaughan International Vocal Competition. Thurman made history as the first woman in 30 years to tour full-time with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (2018–2020). Hello, my name is Elene Bratton. I am Jamie’s mom, and founder of Jamie’s Joy. We lost Jamie very suddenly, in a car crash when he was one month shy of his 6th birthday. During our healing process, our family felt a strong pull to continue Jamie’s spirit through supporting the children of San Diego, so we started a non-profit called Jamie’s Joy which does that and more. We are a non-profit fiscally sponsored by SD Foundation 95-2942582. We hope you can see the value of supporting this all-volunteer organization dedicated to preserving he life of Jamie, whose legacy of love, joy, peace, and connection has guided us to raise money each year for the children of San Diego County. Since its inspection in 2003 we have raised nearly $90,000 to help San Diego kids, youth and families thrive. We’ve been able to promote grief literacy helping numerous families find healthy avenues to grieve through honoring and remembering their loved ones. We’ve spoken out about distracted driving and promoted awareness of traffic safety, going around the world from Cuba to China, Kenya to India to help children everywhere have the opportunity for a better life. This year, to mark Jamie’s 30th birthday anniversary, we are partnering with several organizations that carry forward his spirit of giving and service to the community. This year’s event will take place Saturday, June 6, 2026, and benefit the following recipients, San Diego Cheer & Dance, City Heights Music School, Artful Mind, Sunshine Baseball The event will feature: Live music and interactive drumming with Drummers Without Borders Spoken word poetry by Kalil Price Youth demonstrations and inspirational testimony Face painting arts and crafts, and family activities Silent auction and community resources Food, entertainment, and healing-centered activities.
