The artists of Village Arts Center invite you to enjoy an afternoon of art in their working artist studios and colorful courtyard in Balboa Park. These working art studios enable visitors to meet artists, see demonstrations and enjoy the unique atmosphere. Visit the 36 working artist studios, galleries and art guilds who host over 200 local juried artists. Offering classes, workshops and art camps all year long. Select a date: September 20 or November 8, from 9-11:30 a.m. This 2.5-hour workshop will advance your skills and you will carve a small bowl. Each student will be provided a wooden blank ready to power carve. The instructor will show how to form a bowl with power carving tools, as well as creating a unique and personal design to implement into each project. Material fee: $5 payable to the instructor at the start of the workshop. This is an intermediate Power Carving workshop. Students must have completed either the Intro to Power Carving | Sculptural Art &/or Intro to Power Carving | Carving a Spoon before enrolling in this workshop. This workshop is appropriate for ages 18 and older. Prior experience is mandatory. Experience a transformative journey with "A Walk with Yáamay," a series of free, site-specific guided “art walks” presented by New Village Arts. Led by a council of Indigenous artists and curators, these immersive tours blend natural exploration with live poetry, song, visual art, and performance. Drawing inspiration from "Yáamay: An Anthology of Feminine Perspectives Across Indigenous California," this experience invites you to become part of the narrative. Every participant will be provided with a journal and pencil to capture personal reflections, sketches, and insights as the performance unfolds around them- as well as a copy of the anthology. The "A Walk with Yáamay" program is proud to partner with Queer Sol Collective, the poets of Yáamay, and local parks and recreation spaces to bring this experience to life.
