Culinary Historians of San Diego will present “Made in California, Part II,” featuring George Geary, at 10:30 a.m. September 21, in the Neil Morgan Auditorium of the San Diego Central Library, 330 Park Blvd, San Diego. The building garage provides two hours of free parking. Through George’s colorful and entertaining presentation, he will continue to illustrate and describe the remarkable stories of the California-born burger joints, diners, fast food, and restaurants that changed America from 1951-2010. Brimming with captivating historical details and photos, George’s tale will surely waken everyone’s inner foodie. George Geary is an award-winning chef, best-selling author, educator, casting judge and culinary contest judge for major food manufacturers. A former pastry chef for the Walt Disney Company, George is a Certified Culinary Professional, and was awarded the Culinary Educator Of the Year by the International Association of Culinary Professionals. He is well known for creating all of the cheesecakes for The Golden Girls. Author of several books and 11 cookbooks, George is a frequent guest on national and local LA TV. Every Monday and Thursday at 11 a.m., chocolate lovers can discover an exclusive creation made in-house and available for one day only. Each pastry spotlights Seabreeze’s signature chocolate or house-made fillings, crafted with ethically sourced cacao through direct trade partnerships. From rich brownies and delicate tartlets to decadent cupcakes and soufflés, every item is thoughtfully made and brimming with dark chocolate. The San Diego Archaeological Center is proud to host Donna Walker for an artifact drawing workshop. Unlike other professions where digital technology has replaced traditional methods, researchers in archaeology still rely on the detailed drawings that an illustrator can produce. Just open an archaeological report, magazine, or book, and you’ll find the majority of stone tools and pottery are shown as hand-done line drawings along with the photographs. Having both photographs and illustrations provides a complete analysis and a better representation of the artifact. In this class, you’ll learn this valuable technical skill of drawing chipped stone tools. Art supplies and snacks will be provided. Celebrate the beauty of the natural world using materials readily available. In this 4-hour workshop, we’ll create a soft cover accordion book—painting and collaging on the covers and collaging the many panels of the interior. We’ll add in some pop ups and some die cut windows too! Bring your favorite animal images or select from the vast assortment of provided collage images. This is a fun, messy and adaptable book structure. Students are welcome to bring their own paper sources they might choose to incorporate. No experience necessary.
