Love is in the air, and so is creativity! This Valentine’s Month, get excited to join our Galentine’s Gang Paint and Sip event at Local Roots Kombucha. Gather your besties and enjoy a special day to express your fun relationship! Local artists will help you learn how to recreate a fun art piece to display in your home or give as a gift! All supplies will be provided, so just bring your enthusiasm! This event is located outside. You will be surrounded by space heaters, but make sure to bring a sweater! Local Roots Kombucha & Pizza brings a unique vibe to North County with their better and bold-flavored hard kombucha. Local Roots offers a selection of locally crafted brews on tap and wine by the glass. Don’t forget to check out their food menu as well!! They are a family-friendly tap house with plenty of room for pets as well!! We will hold events outside in their private canopy space. Plenty of parking is available as well! We encourage artistic freedom! You can alter the painting to fit your style and use any of our colors. Things to know: We require a 48-hour notice for cancellations/rescheduling. Missy Mazzoli’s Enthusiasm Strategies (2019) opens our tenth season, and her words offer a fitting framing: she describes music as “a way of setting the world in order, a method of carving up time in way that, seemingly by magic, changes our frame of mind, energizes us, and gives us courage and reassurance.” Haydn’s quartets certainly fit that description, and his opus 33, no. 1 featured on this program is a sparkling example. The second half of this concert features two works that were composed a few years apart in the 1920’s, though the revolutionary sonic worlds they inhabit are distinct; Júlian Carillo’s 150th birthday would be two days after this concert, and his third quartet (Two Sketches) is part of his exploration in microtonal music. Janacek’s first quartet was inspired by Tolstoy’s Kreutzer Sonata and is one of the 20th century’s masterpieces. The City of Carlsbad is bringing back the past at the Hot Rods & Cool Treats carnival and classic car show. Grab the family and come on out for some good old-fashioned fun. It’s an old-fashioned carnival at Pine Avenue Park with activities for the young and young at heart. Test your game skills in Can-Knock-Down, Ring Toss, Frog Hopper, and more. Enjoy crafts, face painting, and a Fun Zone. Build your own sundae at the ice cream bar and vote on your favorite car in the classic car show. Enjoy live music covering decades of sounds. Carnival tickets, food, and drinks are available for purchase at the event. How to enter your car: Cars are eligible to win in only one category. Entries will be limited to automobiles 25 years old or older, no buses or semi-trailer rigs. All participants will receive an event collectors dash plate. The City of Carlsbad’s popular EGGstravaganza Spring Festival returns. This annual spring event features Carlsbad’s largest egg hunt, an ongoing egg scramble where kids race to collect candy-filled eggs. Don't forget to bring your basket! Face-painting, crafts, cookie decorating, a fun zone, soak the bunny and more. Food and beverages are available for purchase. Activity cards and wristbands can be purchased in advance or at the event to enjoy the activities and fun zone. No registration is needed to attend this event. How the egg scramble works The egg scramble is ongoing from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or until eggs run out. To keep the scramble fun for all ages, one field will be designated for children ages 6 and over who want to race for their eggs, and an identical one will be for children ages 5 and under. There is also a noncompetitive field for young children, children with special needs, and for families wanting to pose for a photo opportunity. To avoid lines during the event, $8 activity cards and $8 unlimited inflatables wristbands can be purchased in advance at city community centers. The cards can be divided among multiple children for all the activities; however, wristbands are per person. Enjoy pirate themed pool activities and games during the City of Carlsbad’s annual Pirate Plunge event. Come dressed in a swimsuit and enjoy the swashbuckling activities which include diving for treasure, ship raider race, walking the plank, and other fun pool activities and floating obstacles. The Splash Pad will also be open for the little ones. Dry activities include a pirate ship slide, a photo op and a treasure hunt where children will have the chance to follow a map around the decks collecting treasure along the way. Tickets are $15 per person and kids ages 3 and under are free but still need to be registered. Pick up your wristbands in advance at Alga Norte Aquatic Center during the week before the event, to avoid lines. Food will be available for purchase. For safety reasons, only pool noodles and US Coastguard approved floatation devices are allowed in the pool.
