  • Immerse yourself in an evening of jazz as CSUSM proudly welcomes award-winning pianist Ed Kornhauser to our campus. Join us for an unforgettable musical experience that transcends boundaries. Ed's captivating performance will showcase the brilliance that earned him the title of Best Jazz Artist and Best Jazz Album at the 2022 and 2021 San Diego Music Awards. As a graduate in Jazz Studies from San Diego State University, Ed's artistry on the piano and keyboards has been praised by the San Diego Troubadour, dubbing him "one of San Diego’s top pianist/keyboardists." Ed is not only a solo sensation but also an integral part of The Matt Smith Neu Jazz Trio, and his collaborations with Grammy award-winning producer Kamau Kenyatta have produced acclaimed albums like "RETROgrade" and "I.Am.Calm." Join us as he brings these musical masterpieces to life on stage. Before the concert, the CSUSM jazz ensemble will perform for our guest artist and receive feedback, which all are welcome to attend.   • The Medium Festival of Photography runs April 1-16 in San Diego, with some events in Tijuana. Some highlights: Community Pop-Up at Bread and Salt: Revolving around the Paris Photo / Aperture PhotoBook Awards exhibition, this day-long event will also include exhibitors, photographers, a DJ set from Lola Rey and free coffee. Saturday, Apr. 1 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bread and Salt in Logan Heights. Keynote at MCASD: At the keynote event, the featured speakers will be Judith Joy Ross and Joshua Chang, in conversation at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla. Friday, April 7: Keynote reception begins at 5:30, presentation begins at 6:30 p.m. at MCASD La Jolla. Second Sight Lecture: Anh-Thuy Nguyen: The 2023 Second Sight Award recipient will speak at the Museum of Contemporary Art La Jolla at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Apr. 6. Size Matters Juried Exhibition: This annual, signature show from Medium Photo features photography-based works smaller than 10 inches. The exhibition runs April 3-16 at Mesa College Art Gallery. Opening reception: 4-7 p.m. on Apr. 6 at Mesa College Art Gallery. Tenam Studio Performances: Multi-disciplinary artist and musician Lexi Pulido will perform photography-inspired sets every morning at 10 a.m. from April 10-14 at her space Tenam Studio in Normal Heights. Pulido's performances are short, theatrical, inspiring and follow the missive "everything is art."   • Crown City Chorale, a community choir in Coronado, is finishing its second season this spring, and we would love for you to attend our final concert on May 15th at 7 p.m. at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 1111 5th St., Coronado, CA 92118. This lighthearted program of love songs features folk and jazz tunes and familiar songs from the movies that will undoubtedly make you want to sing along! A modest admission price of $15 helps Crown City Chorale to run this lovely organization and continue to share choral music with our San Diego community.
