The 14th annual GOVX San Diego Half Marathon takes runners through five miles of waterfront, four historic communities, three parks, two miles of downtown streets, and finishes in the historic Gaslamp Quarter. The 5K is a flat and fast course all in downtown San Diego. Registration is now open and thousands of runners from all around the nation and the world are expected to participate in this San Diego running tradition. The GOVX San Diego Half Marathon and 5K is a part of In Motion Events’ San Diego Foundation SoCal Triple Crown race series, which also includes the Carlsbad Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K, and the America’s Finest City Half Marathon and 5K. This trio offers a variety of courses and scenery throughout San Diego, providing athletes with a fun and unique running experience in distinct parts of the city and county. Athletes who participate in each race in the same calendar year, no matter the distance they participate in, will be awarded a San Diego Foundation SoCal Triple Crown medal to celebrate their accomplishment of completing the race series. Runners simply register for all three events separately, no additional registration or fee is required to qualify for the San Diego Foundation SoCal Triple Crown finisher award. We offer a 10% military discount to active duty service members. Make sure to answer the questions about military service during registration to receive the discount instructions. Benefiting the Community The charity beneficiary of the GOVX San Diego Half Marathon is the San Diego Fire-Rescue Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded by former firefighters and dedicated community leaders. They provide enhanced equipment, training, technology, and community education resources ensuring that the men and women of the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department are better equipped to protect the residents, property, and environment of San Diego and the surrounding region. The GOVX San Diego Half Marathon also provides the opportunity for other local charities to raise funds through their association with the event. Join in the thrill of fast-paced bicycle racing by pro racers, top-level amateurs and a fun children's cycling event at the Barrio Logan Grand Prix, one of Southern California's largest cycling events. The race is open to men and women of all ages, from professional and Olympic level cyclists to first-time racers. BLGP is the proud host of the SCNCA Junior Criterium Championships! The 0.8-mile race course takes place in historic downtown Barrio Logan and will begin and end on Newton Avenue across from Perkins Elementary School. Spectators will have access to numerous views of the racers along city streets in the Barrio Logan area throughout the day. There will also be a free Kids Zone for youth participants offering free helmets and an opportunity to participate in a bicycle safety rodeo. This FREE symposium will explore, how, at a global level, Homo sapiens have reshaped the planet Earth to such an extent that we now talk of a new geological age, the Anthropocene. But each of us shapes our own worlds, physically, symbolically, and in the worlds of imagination. This symposium focuses especially on one form of construction, the construction of buildings, while stressing that such construction is ever shaped by diverse factors from landscape to culture and the construction of history embodied in it - and more. After a brief look at birds building their nests as an example of variation on a species-specific Bauplan, we sample a broad sweep of cultural evolution and niche construction from the earliest stone tools of Neanderthals and Homo sapiens through the Neolithic and the rise of cities to the formal and informal architecture of the present day.
