  • New Exhibitions Consider Art from the Borderlands The Borrego Art Institute’s new exhibition, “The Border & Beyond: Contemporary Views” showcases the work of five artists whose works explores borders, boundaries and mediums. Featured artists in the main gallery include Ana Maria Herrara, Lupita Shahbazi, Carlos Castrejon, Melisa Rimada and Elizabeth Rodriguez. The collection ranges from oil to mixed media and fiber art and more. The North Gallery will feature “Shadows and Sanctuaries: Hidden Gods of the Valley,” an exhibition of work by Baja artist Benito Del Aquilar, whose pop art confections run deep. The opening reception is Jan. 3, 2026 from 5-7 p.m. and features the music of award-winning singer and performer Joel Torres. The shows run through January 25. This event is part of the Borrego Springs ArtWalk. Free and open to the public.

  • Create a one-of-a-kind collage that celebrates your loved one and gently helps you envision the year ahead within a caring community. Guided by Lolly Beck-Pancer, Grief Counselor with The Elizabeth Hospice, this workshop will take place on Saturday, January 3, from 1–2:30 PM at Expressive Arts @ 32nd & Thorn in North Park. During this compassionate gathering, we will honor our grief and loss while also looking toward the future, discovering how creativity can nurture healing and hope. This workshop is free of charge, open to everyone, and can be taken on its own or as part of the full Without Words series on the first Saturday of every month.   • Chase Morrin is a prolific pianist and composer, having released four original albums which were all multi-cultural collaborations, and written for ensembles like the Louisville Orchestra and the self-created Music Alliance ensemble at Yellow Barn. He is currently a professor at the Berklee Global Jazz Institute and New England Conservatory Preparatory School and has received eleven Downbeat awards, four ASCAP Jazz composer awards and was nominated for a National Korean Award for his album, Gapi. In addition to finding innovative approaches to musical collaboration, Chase is dedicated to advocating for social change through music and creating more equitable spaces in music communities.

By end of the semester, you will have learned to design beautiful and professional looking arrangements for both everyday and special occasions. This class is free and open to the public.
