Guided by her lifelong belief in "beauty and nature above all else," the New Jersey native and clinical social worker turned her beach walks along Silver Strand into a monumental grassroots movement. As a founder of the Silver Strand Beautification Project (SSBP), Liza united local residents, city leaders, state agencies, and the U.S. Navy to revitalize public spaces. Her vision and tenacity led to landmark achievements, including the award-winning Nature’s Bridge to Discovery interactive trail, the undergrounding of coastal utilities, five landscaped highway medians, the unique Silver Strand bus shelters, and the creation of Grand Caribe Shoreline Park. Today, Liza continues her advocacy, inspiring the community to protect and preserve these scenic coastal treasures for future generations. David R. Landon is a native of Guilford, Connecticut, who graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1975 with a BS in Business Administration. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1976 and retired as a Captain in 2006 after 30 years on active duty. He has commanded HSL-51 in Atsugi Japan, HSL-41 in San Diego California, Fleet Area Control and Surveillance Facility in San Diego and Naval Base Coronado, which included NAS North Island, Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, NALF San Clemente Island, the Silver Strand Training Complex, La Posta Mountain Warfare Training Complex and OLF Imperial Beach. Since retiring from the Navy, David has worked as the Chief Operating Officer and co-owner of Priority Solutions, a permanent placement- recruiting firm and as a Program Manager and leadership advisor for Scientific Applications International Corporation (SAIC). What to know if you’re composting organic materials from your neighbors in Unincorporated San Diego County Farmers, ranchers, and livestock owners have reduced their waste-hauling expenses by composting their own organic wastes and manure, thanks to the updated San Diego County zoning ordinance. This update offers increased flexibility and simplifies on-site composting for composting operations in unincorporated San Diego County. Join us at the Park Horse Project in Lakeside to learn about these possibilities and tour their manure composting system. This workshop does not address how to manage manure compost and focuses on the zoning and regulation requirements for mid-scale compost operations in unincorporated San Diego County. The evening opens with Canadian-German composer Samy Moussa’s "Elysium," an orchestral meditation on the afterlife as a luminous plane of peace and moral fulfillment. With its vast soundscapes and glowing harmonies, the piece invites reflection on beauty, transcendence, and the human spirit’s eternal journey. Next comes Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D Major, a timeless masterpiece of Romantic expression. Brimming with lyricism, exuberance, and dazzling virtuosity, the concerto moves from soaring melodies and poetic intimacy to fiery brilliance. Its seamless balance of tenderness and vitality has made it one of the most treasured works in the violin repertory. The concert concludes with Stravinsky’s "The Firebird," performed in its complete ballet version. Written for Diaghilev’s "Ballets Russes," the score dazzles with its glittering orchestration, magical storytelling, and ecstatic finale. This mythical tale of light overcoming darkness launched Stravinsky’s career and remains one of the most exhilarating creations in all music.
